Water Depth maximums and potential problems

Newbie, and just got 2011 XLT 4.0L 4X4 w/ 17 inch tires and am concerned that "never go deeper than mid axle" is recommended. We have some deep water holes on the way to the woods! What is the safe maximum depth and what if any problems / solutions are there to increase the depth (short of a lift, can't afford it and I'm no mechanic)
Thanks!

I wouldnt go any further tha. The bottom of the door or ull be swimming in water. If u go deep might want to do a tranny rear front diff and transfer case flush jus in case u got water in the breather lines.

17" tires? Thats really small.

What is "deep" and how often do you drive it?

they say if you submerge the diffs you should replace the fluid. as far as lifts, only thing that will raise that diff up is larger tires.

adam i think he may have meant 17" wheels.

check this out, its on a taco but same idea applies. find your breathers and take them higher.
likewise make sure seals are good and fluids are fresh and youll be sittin pretty

17 inches is too small, do you mean 27?

close to 2 feet sometimes. Hunting season in and out through 3 deep holes each day for 2 weeks. I meant 17 inch wheels....

Thanks for all the good info everyone, I really appreciate it

2 feet shouldnt be an issue if u enter the holes slow, dont try to rush in and make a big splash or ur truck might drink some water and hydrolock.

extend your breather lines first.
