For those who are interested, here are some scans from an old Ford dealer sales guide from '84 about the Explorer package on Rangers...

i used to have a 1983 ranger XLS 4x2 short bed reg cab
the build date was 10-82, it was one of the first rangers!
it had a 2.0 in it and a 4 speed manual trans with a 6.75 inch rear axle!
it was my first truck and i miss it a lot!
it had scarlet red interior and was silver with the XLS stripes.
well when i sold it due to the x wife having our second child it was lifted 7 inches and had 33's and also sporting a 5.0 with a BW T5 and a 7.5 inch tracloc rear.
now 17 years later i have gotten back to it sorta with the new 2004 EDGE, it reminds me of it a lot!
