im so damn happy to finally get to drive my truck again!!! had zero issues to deal with during the swap other than what kind of beer we wanted to drink and where to get food from. other than that i had a great weekend!

benjamwhit51 Jul 25, 2010 09:12 PM

I hate having problems that prevent me from driving... Glad to see your back on the road!

rstangboi Jul 25, 2010 09:12 PM

damn. you made that look easy!

ranger4.0 Jul 25, 2010 09:17 PM

honestly it was stupid easy to do. straight up swap. all electrical was either color coded or wouldnt reach anything else. only thing i noticed different were a few vacuum and fuel lines were different from the sport trac engine... easy to change though.

this swap was not hard at all. just very time consuming. me and my buddy spent two 8-10 hour days working on it and i was able to drive it home saturday night. the bad part is i broke the mechanical fan taking it off so now i got to figure out how to wire up and mount an electric fan

dang that's sweet! is it just me or is EVERYONE getting the Nomads wrapped in Goodyears? its like the new "classic II and BFGs"...lol!

ranger4.0 Jul 25, 2010 10:34 PM

Admit it. The nomads look GREAT on dsg and the new wranglers are awesome tires!

03edge Jul 26, 2010 07:13 AM

congrats on getting it done so quick, i bet its nice to have it back

tkennedy17 Jul 26, 2010 07:56 AM

happy to see it went smoothly, i remember having to do this to my first ranger several years back, unfortunately it wasnt as smooth.. :\

ShadowRanger08 Jul 26, 2010 08:51 AM

did you just swap in another 4.0?

05Level2 Jul 26, 2010 09:06 AM

Did you figure out what caused the low comp on number 4?

ranger4.0 Jul 26, 2010 09:10 AM

Yup just straight swap. But now it's kinda got me wondering about the new engine. Wheni did the compression test kn my old engine I onlyhad onecylinder with low compression.... This one is from an 05 sport trac and it feels like it has more power. It really starts to pull like a mother at about 2200 rpm.

Is there any difference between the engines onthe rangers and sport trace? Different cams or something?

Not yet. I have not had time to tear into the old engine yet. I think it is a bent valve... But I'm not sure yet

ShadowRanger08 Jul 26, 2010 10:13 AM

Well its good that things went smoothly. I don't know about the engines being different at all, I dont really know much about 'em. but its possible, I know the old jeep 4.0 got more power in a cherokee then in a TJ so it is possible.
and must be nice to have your truck back, I haven't driven mine in 6 days haha, has 2 flat tires, and another with a slow leak, i just don't want to bother fixing them cos I'm getting new ones tomorrow. woo!

FULLSCALE Jul 26, 2010 10:38 AM

Good to see you got the truck back up and running! What tires you getting Andrew?

ShadowRanger08 Jul 26, 2010 10:40 AM

just some stock goodyears off someone elses ranger. my tires are baldddd....I found some nice 18" rims off an explorer, but the guy hasn't gotten back to me, so I'm just going to get tires and save for my KMCs.

bonez Jul 26, 2010 11:56 AM

are those nomads 15 x10's?

ranger4.0 Jul 26, 2010 03:30 PM

They are 15x8 win 3.75" backspacing

morris Jul 26, 2010 06:59 PM

a possible bent valve after 5 years? how many kms did that one have? if it is a bent valve and nothing to do with the blok itself, fixit and keep it as a spare....

ranger4.0 Jul 26, 2010 07:54 PM

91858km when it went tick tick! Iam going to look into possibilities for building the old engine. I don't know if there are any stroked kits or big bore kits out there. Or maybe build the bottom end stronger, rebuild the heads, and supercharge!

ShadowRanger08 Jul 26, 2010 09:01 PM

i'll take it? haha its got less miles and more power then my 3.0

ranger4.0 Jul 27, 2010 12:03 AM

Lol come pick it up

ShadowRanger08 Jul 27, 2010 12:49 AM

i'll wait til ya fix it ;) haha

05Level2 Jul 27, 2010 08:21 PM

Maybe a head gasket?
