Stock rim question

Okay so i have an 08 XL 2.3L and the stock wheels are the ones like below but i believe they have a hub cap type deal on them? They feel plastic. So my question is are these actually plastic hub caps? I haven't had the time to try to take them off but i thought you guys would have some knowledge on this. If they are do you know what they look like under? possible pics? I want to paint them black so they look like the ones below.

Thanks guys.

The chrome cover should just pop off. A guy on here did it (I believe it was crackerstein?) and he did exactly what the guy in the picture you posted did.

So that's what i have on my truck now. You think that it will look the same underneath the chrome plastic cover?

Nah it'll be like a flat gray probably. Let me see if I can find the guy who I was telling you about.

I am just wondering about the pattern on the rim if that will be the same. I want to spray them flat black and if i can just spray the actual rim instead of the plastic cover then that would be great. Especially since its still under warranty and being financed. haha

that would be great if you can find it.

The rim will look the same. It will just be a different color.

The plastic cover is glued on so you ruin them by taking it off. Plus, the glue is hard to get off of the actual wheel. I'd just sand and paint the cover.

You think so? That would be best? This might be a dumb question but it wont void any part of the warranty if i do so will it?

Hmm, after looking at the linked thread the covers don't appear to be glued on. I know they are on other Ford wheels.

I will check it out tomorrow between work and post up info and let you know. It would be nice if i could just pop them on if i need to. How well does rattle can hold up to washes? just be gentle with it?
