its i beleave the charcoal canaster for the evac system for the gas tank its takes the vapors and neutralizes them and lets it out..

Actually it absorbs them and the evap system sends them into the engine to be burned.

The charcoal canister can absorb a foot-ball sized amount of fumes. It's kind of cool.

Thanks guys. Well my real problem is the rubber hose that goes into it has a hole caused by my exhaust. Where would I get a new line for it? And is this hurting my mpg or anything else?

Redneckstone 03-02-2006 03:04 PM

no not hurting MPG but replace it for sure head to the local auto store and take the hose with you can to match it up they should be able to help

It might slightly hurt your mpg, when the PCM commands the evap solenoid to "purge" the fumes into the engine, they might not be getting there, and that is a source of fuel. I'm not sure if the PCM commands the injectors slightly more lean for the addition of the fumes or if during a more rich mixture situation they are added.

I thought it was a gasoline expansion tank... shows what I know.
