check charging system

Quite day, thought I would check out the charging system. Pulled out the old volt meter, battery at 12.93 volts, started engine and read 14.43 volts coming from the alternator.

How sweet it is,,,,,

Dropped the transmission pan and replaced the filter with 4 quarts of Mercon V. It rides much better now, it was nasty in there.

Looks like the p.o never did much of any maintenance to this poor little truck, since the fuel filter was just as bad.

I will be doing this soon again to try and get as much of that gunk out. I wish I could find a trans pan with a drain bolt..anyone knows where to get one?

Big Brake Conversion

I just installed a set of Sport Trac rotors on my '96 Ranger today.
Not quite as straight-forward as some of the earlier posts would indicate, but other than making the adapters, it took me 5 hours. Now I can lock up the 225/70-16 Michelins!!

Removed the hideous looking, cheaply installed HID headlights from the pervious owner.

Also dropped in a k&N air filter bought at Wallyworld, $20 cheaper than the auto store down the street.

IAC sensor

Replace IAC sensor today, Truck has a terrible air knock thru intake system. Cleaning did not work, maybe I should have tried longer on that.

Anyway, truck no idle at 800 in gear...Close enough

Since I was already under the hood, I changed rear differential fluid with 78w140 Mobile One.

Used my Mityvac to remove old fluid and pump in new with same.

What.. You don't remove the differential cover, what about all the crap left at the bottom?

Same system MB and BMW uses in their shops to change oil. Very little crap left by the Mityvac, at least not enough for MB and BMW to worry about..

Oil was hot when I took it out, Gotta be a lot better than it was.

Started the tear down of my new block, gonna replace the current 5.0 with a fresh 306 along with some goodies. Figure a cam, porting the heads/intake, injectors and tuning will put me in the 275-300hp range. Should liven it up some
