block heater. you plug it in during the winter months and it warms up your coolant so the truck starts easier.

Kris03 03-18-2012 07:52 PM

really? thats so strange it. i figured there would be a module or something (at least a fuse?) not just a straight wire that goes into the block. thats pretty cool. just keep it plugged in all night?

06RangerXLT 03-18-2012 07:54 PM

no put it on a timer. it only takes maybe an hour to warm the block, and by warm were not taling hot, were taling above freezing. i dont bother with mine.

Kris03 03-18-2012 07:55 PM

it was probably meant for people more up north than i am. is that a special option or aftermarket?

StxDangerRanger 03-18-2012 07:56 PM

Block heater FTMFW!
Works awesome for winter. it warms up the oil and antifreeze. its better for starting your truck as its less harsh.

Its a factory option, you could order it.

blue03ranger 03-18-2012 07:57 PM

you can if you want i guess, although it doesnt usually take very long to warm up. on our farm tractors we usually plug them in for an hour or so before we're ready to use them.

Kris03 03-18-2012 07:57 PM

thats awesome! ones i have seen online are this whole big deal with this radiator looking heater block.

just plug it in and the power from the house warms it up? interesting! naturally winter here is over now so i cant try it out

blue03ranger 03-18-2012 07:58 PM

ive seen battery heaters as well

I think most have them, don't they? I know mine has one.

Kris03 03-18-2012 08:03 PM

i just would of thought there would be more than just a plain cable going to the block.

blue03ranger 03-18-2012 08:10 PM

inside the block is a tubular hoop that heats up, similar to a hot knife for cutting styrofoam

this one is for an izuzu but you get the idea

Kris03 03-18-2012 08:21 PM

ohhhh ok i get it. very simple. thats pretty cool! dont know when id use it. as soon as i get up id have to plug it in and then by time i leave for work it be ready. unless i got it on a timer like mentioned.

99offroadrngr 03-18-2012 08:58 PM

haha guess i was right. bastard, i want one of those haha. funny we didn't see it with the front end off

SteelDirigible 03-18-2012 09:11 PM

There wouldn't be a fuse since it uses 110 power. FYI. That's what the breakers n your house are for.

No--you guys are all way off---you have one of the ultra-rare plug-in hybrid Rangers that Ford released in '99. The real pisser is that you need a REALLLLLLLLLLLY LONNNNG extensension cord for it to work in hybrid-mode.
My '00 had the block heater--I used it all the time when it was going to be below zero (you know, back when the Northeast had real winters!). IIRC, mine had a heater blanket around the battery hooked into it also. I always used a HD plug-in wall timer with mine-clicked it on about an hour before I left for work.

im not fortunate enough to have that battery warmer though

cchsbuzz19 03-19-2012 07:47 AM

Wow, I've never seen anything but a diesel have a block heater. Pretty neat that your truck came with one!

all Canadian trucks come stock with battery warms and block heaters, only a hand full in the states have it....................damn canadians

PSIJOE 03-19-2012 08:31 AM

hmmm Just for kicks I'm going to go check if mine has it. Mines from way up north. I doubt it. We will see though.

Kris03 03-19-2012 08:43 AM

Mayb my truck was originally bought in canada. I never did get the carfax on it.

StxDangerRanger 03-19-2012 09:02 AM

Its a factory option you could order (is that an Echo?)
Many trucks when they got built to sit on lots got the most popular options, So i wouldn't be surprised to see a northern state truck with a block heater.

Kris03 03-19-2012 09:56 AM

funny they gave my truck the nice option of a block heater but decided not to give it power windows locks or cruise control lol

That's funny stuff. You will never need to use a block heater, just zip tie it up somewhere out of the way. I see -30 pretty regularly and I usually don't bother to plug in, only when it gets really cold. Does your truck have the electic battery blanket too?
