Ranger days coming to an end...for now

well it comes a time where i may have to part with my truck and get somthna bit more practical for now. and someday maybe get a ranger again to start where i left off. my truck is just not practical anymore, the 3.0 is just ghey and not fun, and the milage is terrible. well i want to get a car, but i cant subside my 4x4 addiction for long so i think i might get a wrangler.

and since im in school and have to drive everyday, im buying gas everyday perty much, not cool at all. also its kinda hard on my parents cause i can only pay for so much, i try and pay for school and my truck and insurance i cant make. so with payments, insurance and school.. its not good.

so i was thinking trade in the truck on the wrangler, get some money back and give the rest to the rents, and then insurance will be on a payed off vehicle which i can then pay for. the insurance for my truck since its on a loan and im 20...is insane. so i think i should help out my parents for helpn me for years.

lemme know what you think about this wrangler, its cheap and looks mint

http://www.carsoup.com/used/detail.a...alerGroupID=#x

if not a wrangler i'll find somthn here.. i just need somthn better than my truck, and i'll get a tight car next year

i soooo dont wanna get rid of her, but its to the point of big money i dont have to keep it going, 302 and lift was in it next but yea.. its gonna be hard to leave her after workn on it all these yers.

oh, and if i do, im taken stuff off and selln it to anyone who wants, like my rear bumper, spacers, tire carrier, sub box, etc...

try this for a pic.
http://imageserver.carsoup.com/2J4FY...1.jpg?xt=46261

well like i said, practical in the sense of still being able to offroad.. i cant have a car without an offroad vehicle..car will come soon enough

it'll save me more than u think.. i pay like 2 grand every six months for insurance, plus 300 or so for a payment, and then gas on a ****y 3.0.

trust me that 4.0 wrangler will be way better than my truck

jeep looks ok, but seems old like an early 90's. Your going from a 2002 truck to something way older and could give u problems down the road? how many miles on it?

^^^^I am with zach, there was no talk of this till the 35s went on the truck. Sell the 35s and go back to stock tires or even 33s.

honestly...ur insurance isn't going to be much better because of the roll over factor of a jeep.....

they have the aero dynamics of a cardboard box

a friend of mine always complained how horrible his gas mileage was and he was only runnin 31's

nah ive just been thinking about some stuff lately.. nothn to do with the 35's, ive been thinking and looking for other vehicles since the fall. ive been a load on the rents lately with school and all the truck payment and insurance. so i think itd be good for me and them to get a vehicle payed off, and only have insurance, so i can fully pay for myself

idk its not for sure, but yea the 35's are off for now since i drive alot. and i might get a car, but the wrangler came to mind for a all year ride till im outa school

Dang bro, 13mpg...my dads HOG 5.3 chevy gets 13.7...and he's on full bolt ons.

I get about 17-19, and I mash the gas everywhere. I AM stock...but I can't see it dropping 5mpg on a lift/wheels/tires...maybe I'm wrong though.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you, but I'm just sucking it up.

I pay 500/month for car insurrance/payments. I live in florida (pretty high ins.) and I'm 18.

I would keep the truck, get a programmer and efan...it's well worht it. Imagine this, you have the jeep paid off, ins. is cheap, but your clutch goes one day. Then you need a new set of b.j.'s (ball joints), then the next month you need a new fuel pump.

It sucks, I had an 86 caprice and an 88 CRX before this. Both were swapped. IT SUCKED!!! Even before the swap they both sucked. Things break all the time, the money adds up. It was actually cheaper for me to get my truck, pay the payments, have not as much break, and STILL HAVE MONEY FOR MODS!!!

Trust us...keep the truck. Unless your getting a little civic or CRX to save money...keep the truck. Do yourself a favor!!!

BTW, I drive about 50miles per day. I make 9 dollars/hr right now (soon to be 11), 40 hrs a week (about 1200/month) I live w/ the rents...I make it somehow. And I still have money to spend on mods (I just bought lift/wheels/tires). I have NO savings, barely any money on CC's.

My opinion...keep it, it will pay off in the long run!!!!

You ever think about a programmer? They help alot with mileage and performance. Not sure if you have one already though.

Dude, buy a 92 civic and park the ranger and remove the full coverage. you can find the beater for maybe double what them 35's cost you and just drive it till it dies. meanwhile all the money you are saving on insurance and gas can go towards the truck payments and when you get the urge to wheel you can take your truck out for a few hours.

I think you're like me and hit a point of boredmn with your ranger and are looking for excuses to do something else. I don't think it's the best idea to get rid of her quite yet.

Think through your options. I understand what you are doing. The insurance on a paid off car will be cheaper, but it may not have some of the same safety features as your truck which may make it higher. I used to have a paid of '92 Mazda 626 w/ minimal coverage and the insurance for that was more than my paid off '01 Ranger with full coverage. They flat out told me it was because of all the saftey features.
Good Luck with whatever decision you make!

dude, gear it ASAP and your MPG will go way up!

I adon't remember all engine mods you have if any, but E-Fan, all new pulleys. regular fluid changes. new plugs and wires, tuner,

there's alot of stuff you can do to free up that MPG.
But I really think you should park it for a while because thats all just more money

Thats what I say, just get a beater, that way you still have your truck for the occasional wheeling, but thats just IMO. Good luck w/ the decision.
