Stumped and asking the ranger gods for help!

On the highway today I noticed that I am getting a slight shimmy in the steering wheel, with slight vibration felt inside the truck. Now all four shocks were new last summer, I had the tires rotated and the balance on them checked so that's not it. The drivers front hub/wheel bearing was replaced a couple of months ago.

I also jacked up the front of the truck to see if there was play in the tires (by grabbing the top and bottom of the tire and giving them a wiggle). Nothing.

I might take it in to get the alignment checked but wanted to see if anyone had any other suggestions first.

Wheel bearing may be going. I had one go that had no noticeable play in it, but shook like a demon on the freeway. Once I replaced it everything was good.

Tire pressure can effect the shimmy.

I had a small shimmy and my pressure was low, fixed the shimmy but stil have some noise, maybe a bearing too.

Nope checked tire pressure its all good. Might just bite the bullet and replace the passenger side bearing. Those things are friggin expense. You gotta buy the whole hub right, $290.00. Not sure if that price is high or not?

Just read you said you replaced the Driver’s side Bearing Pak.
I was going to tell you to check the Warranty just in case but can’t go there.

When I did my lift I put on two new bearing paks and got the Lifetime Warranty units…
We will see when I start replacing them how many they will give me.

If all your suspension parts are good, get underneath and check all your U-joints and carrier bearing if you have one.

crawled underneath all suspension parts seem good. Doesn't seem to be any play in the drive shaft of anything so I think the u-joints are okay.

When I got the drivers side bearing hub replace it was with the lifetime warranty bearings. i think that is why they are so much. I'll just get the same kind and do the passengers side.

Yeah so figured out what it was....... remember how I said that I had the wheel balance checked in the original post. Well apparently those meat heads over at "TAUNTON TIRE IN OSHAWA" have no clue how to check wheel balance. Took it to the ford dealership today, guy test drove it, then checked the balance. Two of my wheels were 5 ounces out of balance. Fixed it, now the ride is amazing and smooth, no shimmy.

So to sum it all up Taunton Tire more then likely just took my 80 dollars and did nothing. I find it hard to believe that in less then a month my wheels went out of balance that much.

Go back to Taunton Tire and tell them you had to have it done again at the Ford Dealership and now it is right and see if you can get your money back.

Glad that you figured out the problem. I am experiencing a small vibration only at highway speeds in my 08' Ranger with 62,000+ miles, and for the most part, I have been keeping up with the tire rotations balancings, and alignments. I, too, replaced shocks recently, but I have the original Continental Contitrac tires with low tread. I also need brake pads, and I am broke. I hope to put maintenance off for a bit while I save cash.
