Truck and Life Update (56k lookout)

Well I have been busy with work, and making some important life changes ( joined the Air Force), and now that summer is here I have more time to work on the truck, and I have been doing that a little bit, but I had some very important repairs to make before I could continue modding. I want to do a few more things, not too much though, I will be parking the truck in October for quite a while as I embark through basic training and tech school, god I will miss the truck. Well here are some pictures of what I have been working on.

First off I had some serious back brake issues, and I will never take anyones word on truck repairs unless I see it for myself (long story, the brakes should have never got this bad, especially the drivers side!)

Drivers side, where the heck are the pads!!!

Passenger side, not as bad, but down to the wear bar, and also some of the broken hardware.

$200 dollars later, much much better

Had to get new drums too, painted with caliper paint

Gutted the backseat so I would have more storage room

Floor I built, the backseat can hold quite a bit more without the jump seats.

Picked up a set of Explorer lighted visors with home link and voice memo, very nice.

Other mods I have done throughout the past few years:
OHC, Auto dim mirror, and Home link visors

My favorite mod of all, EATC, plus my VHF Radio, 800mhz scanner, siren, and switches for my emergency lights.

Explorer Dome Light

Turn Signal Mirrors modded to fit 01 mirror style

and last interior mod the explorer sport gauges

And the outside of my truck, older pic, but not much has changed.

I am currently looking for explorer seats, I almost had a set of power heated seats in gray, which I am having a hard time finding, but the junkyard crushed the explorer!! It was a 99 Limited Explorer, so it had an EATC, steering wheel with controls, and a whole bunch of good stuff that is now crushed!!! I almost cried when I saw the power seat controls sticking out the side of the car, and hen the limited logo. The cruelness! If anyone has a set they want to get rid of let me know. Also I might be doing some sort of dual exhaust, but I need some $$ first. Any suggestions on mods are welcome I am always looking for new ideas, and the cheaper the better.

why not a custom center console or a modded explorer console to clean up your radio set up? seems like a worth while mod to me. maybe a billet grill or something to dress up the front?

yes that is a sunroof, nice little bonus i got with the truck. The mud flaps are there because of the road I currently live on, and it was killing my paint. I am looking into some clear stuff that goes over the paint to protect it from the rocks and mud.

I do not have a GPS yet, but that is my cellphone holder you see in the picture that plugs into the cigarette lighter, which is one thing I really love about that location of the cigarette lighter on the rangers.

Actually you are right about the modded explorer console, there is one at the junkyard that is gray and he wants 50 dollars for it. I think I will get it and mod it, but I am not sure how I will mount the scanner, or the speaker for it. I will have to make a metal bracket that attaches to the console and holds the scanner. As far as the billet grille, I have thought of it, but I have some LED lights behind it now, and I don't know how visible they would be through the small openings in the billet grille.

from what I gather from this website and some others they are only for 02-05 power mirrors, my truck is an 01 and has manual mirrors, I modded them to fit.

I have never seen the back of a 2002 + power mirror, so I can only make assumptions. The back of the mirror glass comes with the plastic that looks to slide on some sort of plate in the mirror housing, it has edges that stick up with a lip that slide onto the plate I think. Well my mirror uses 4 pegs and a center pivot ball socket kind of connection. So I cut the plastic off of the back of the new turn signal mirror so that it is flush with the back of the mirror. Then I took my old mirror and used a dremel tool and cut the piece out of the back of the plastic that holds the pins and center pivot point. I took some plastic weld, or epoxy of some sort, I cannot remember, and I aligned the piece from my old mirror on the new one, and epoxied the heck out of it. If I get some time during the week I will pop one off and take some pictures, but if you look at it closely you would be able to figure it out. Just be very careful and take your time, the mirrors are not the strongest as I found out when I did this to my first ranger.

Morris you are correct, those lights are for volunteer fire dept I am with. Also I am hoping to become an EMT in the near future as well.

The ohc with the sunroof control is actually longer than the one with the garage door opener, that was the first thing I checked before I bought it.

carpet is in the plans, I am just having a hard time finding a place locally that sells the stuff.

The reason I have the older style lights is for the amber blinker setup. Its just a personal preference, long story. I have been thinking about a set of the 06-08 style though. Oh, and these were cheap.
