I didn't have much $$$ so I got a ratty one off craigslist for $25. It was an old Glasstite highrise (raven). He didn't have the keys (and the locks were corroded anyhow) so I bought new matched ones off eBay for $15 each, shipped. {Edited to add: and he helped me lift it onto the truck. :-)}

The PO had mounted the whole thing on a wood layer for some reason and I haven't taken it off yet, so you can see a 3/4" wooden border at the bottom. Just C-clamped to the truck until I make more permanent plans.

Did the 2x6 across the bed notches and 3/4" plywood across that to make a quick/dirty deck. Wrapped an old bike cover around the plywood to avoid splinters while I get that sorted out. There is 7.5 clearance from the bed to the bottom of the boards, and 33" clearance from the deck to the ceiling of the topper.

I would think any Canopy from a 1993 Ranger and up would fit just fine and 1992 and older will fit but they look a little funny because the canopy is narrower than the cab by about 2 inches on each side but the back and the inside of the box fits perfectly.

This afternoon, I was chatting with a guy at the local NAPA shop about pickup bed covers and such. We compared our tonneau covers; his is a beautiful A-R-E brand tonneau... mine looks nice but has no brand name at all on it. (Came with the truck).
The A-R-E brand looks really well designed and executed, with really nice-looking hardware inside it. I know you're looking for a topper, not a tonneau, but A-R-E makes a nice line of "pickup bed covers" that are really high quality... not ¢heap, but good.

Might be worth a peek...
