so, what you are saying is if you dont like someones hobby than its wrong?

btw, going on a forum site, telling people that they are wasting money, and bashing what they like to do just makes you look like an asshat

dj wayne 04-23-2011 09:43 PM

I guess it's a maturity level thing. When you're old and wise like me, you take care of things as you appreciate them more. When you're young and foolish you tend to trash stuff more often just on a whim....I used to be young and foolish, but I grew up.

So I'm an asshat because I want to keep my Ranger looking nice ?? So be it.

So go back to trashing your Rangers, I won't mind.

No where does it state this is an off roading only forum.

A beater is self explanatory. You buy it to beat on it, and you appreciate the fact that it can take a beating and be fixed.

A nice truck like a single cab 2wd is not a beater....unless some goober gets a hold of it and makes it one.

I doubt Chris would buy the lowered ranger and take it offroad to beat on it. He would probably keep it nice and shiny.

Like its been said before. He wants BEATER so he can keep his nice ranger NICE. The explorer would be perfect. Inexpensive, parts are plenty(and cheap). Its fine if you want to keep your ranger nice, but have a beater to offroad is a hobby. Just like fishing, hunting and ect. I understand what your saying, but at the same time your being close minded to the hobby. Just because you like sugar in your coffee, doesn't mean the guy next you does.

Save the money. nothing but headaches figuring out someones old work. i would never buy a vehicle that has been modded in anyway. you don't know the shortcuts they have taken. figuring out a project they have started and have not finished is a PITA

The explorer wouldn't be that bad. Lifting one is strait forward no matter if its body lift or suspension. Now the bagged ranger that would all depend. I dont know much about bagging a vehicle so that might be more then its worth to take on.

Do you not see my sig?

I refuse to take my truck anywhere off pavement. I don't see why you are giving me so much greif on buying something to take offroad specifically.

also, never said it was an offroad forum.. I said when you shouldnt bash on what someone likes to do in their free time.

with your auguments, you don't sound old and wise to me

Well my friend actually owns the bagged truck. It was actually done right which is the only reason Im considering it.

I looked at the expy in person, and the body was pretty trashed lol. It would be awesome for a trail truck since I wouldnt have to worry about body damage. Everything I would have done to lift it, he did. It has a newer explorer rear diff (31sline with discs) and he moved the spring perches so the axle is under the springs. Its on 34's and the 34s look tiny haha. It needs 35's-36's

Well, I put in an offer on the expy so we will see what happens

I wouldn't buy it, I know your looking for something to go offroading with and to beat the hell out of.
To me, somebody already beat the hell out of the expo, which is why they're probably selling it. rebuilt motor and trans is bad news bears to me. I agree that there are a ton of parts for these trucks, even a bunch of ranger parts for it too, but your gonna spend more money making that truck run again.

just my two cents, keep looking.

894banger 04-24-2011 08:26 PM

eh i mean they are not bad to work on and pretty study, and if you want ideas just look at foxracing's budget explorer build, and yeah i'm pretty sure no one beats the hell outa their daily driver if you do its stupid, or your yuoung with your fist vehicle then when you spin a bearing you learn real quick

Why would a rebuild motor and trans be a bad thing? I'd rather buy a truck that is mechanically fresh. Then one that is equally beat with a over 150k miles on it. Which most first gen explorers have that or more.

Its how i was raised, how can you be sure whoever put that motor and trans in did it right? how many engines have you seen fail because of something simple and small? i'm not saying it happens all the time. once you replace original stuff, with used stuff that you have no history about, thats the thing that bothers me.

Same can be said about buying used cars. You never know and if you go by that logic you should only buy new cars then.

Taylor 04-24-2011 09:32 PM

Dude, the expo looks fun.

I agree, if i could afford it, i would only buy new cars, but times are tough.
If i had my choice between identical trucks, one with a rebuilt used engine (not the original one) and a truck with a tried original engine.
i'd pick the truck with the original.

I did exactly that with my '88 F350 and I'll be damned if I didn't have to rebuild the bottom end within a year. It was a PITA too, I wish it would have already been done when I bought it.

but you did it, you know its done right. thats what i am getting at here. I know working of stuff is a PITA, but at least you know its done right.

99offroadrngr 04-25-2011 09:17 AM
