Chains are required in the local mountains. Can't get to the local resorts without them.

Will a tonneau cover suffice? That's pretty heavy.

lol yea just put chains on the back

and i also live in cal and usually just tell the chain guys the truck is 4wd ... worked all of last season .... i would chain up if the roads werent plowed as good as they are. If you do follow my advice ive heard if you do get in an accident you will get fined for running no chains in a chain control area.

Maybe, but sand bags are pretty cheap, it won't hurt to get them, and it will help with traction.

The only 4wds allowed without chains are 4wds with snow tires down here.

^^^ I'll abide by the law and put chains on when required and enforced. Don't need any unnecessary fines.
