Whats the Difference

I've loved rangers for as long as I can remember, I bought my first one in June, What is the difference between the edge and the fx4?

zabeard 08-31-2006 09:01 AM

skid plates. maybe shocks, chrome bumpers.

some interior differences as well, like carpet, seat configurations...

Edge has color keyed bumpers and rubber floor mats. Also doesn't have some of the things like skid plates, nice shift nob (if manual), etc. Sometimes the rear end is different too (31 spline IIRC)

so for going off road, the fx4 was the better option?

zabeard 08-31-2006 09:06 AM

by some not much tho

FX4 LII has:
4.11 gears
31 spline axle
31" tires
skid plates
bilstein shocks
tow hooks.

I don't know anything about Edges.

The 4x4 Edge has 4.10 gears and tow hooks also. It also has color matched bumpers.

The L2 is a different ball of wax compared to the FX4.

Also ford does not have a 4.11 gear ratio.

I know the level 2 is more built up, but I was just wondering the differences of the edge and the fx4, Thanks for the help

I was looking at Ford's website about a year ago and they said w/ a LII, you had the option of 4.56 gears... they came w/ 31x10.50 all terrains on alcoa rims also...

OK, I guess here is another question, what is the difference between the XLT and the XLT FX4

bigdavesohc 09-02-2006 01:34 PM

...umm.. I don't think there is an XLT FX4. ...Is there?

l2en 09-02-2006 11:03 PM

An FX4 is on the XLT platform. It just has stuff like the skid plates that the regular XLT doesn't. At least this is true for the 03 model year. I dunno much about the 04+ and don't care to =]

Correct. Mine is an 03 XLT and an FX4 LII.

I guess no one has ever noticed that or taken them up on it. B/c that would be stupid with 31's.
