Wheel Spacers good? bad?

i want my tires to stick out more and make my tires stop rubbing when i turn. what are some good ones to get? also whats the dangers of them?

Redneckstone 05-04-2009 10:08 PM

generally bad

Goodysgotacuda 05-04-2009 10:10 PM

From the look of your avatar, it sure doesn't look like you have something that will rub..

optikal illushun 05-04-2009 10:19 PM

generally a spacer of 1/4" isnt bad as long as there is enough thread left on the studs. anything else and it gets scary. i wouldnt run spacers just to make the tires stick out more, it causes accelerated front end wear. just like running wheels with to much back spacing and/or offset.

there ok i got 1.5" spacers and mob the f$#k out of my truck, no prob yet (have been on for 9 months)

Dangerranger01 05-04-2009 10:30 PM

I was running 7/16 spacers. didn't have any problems at all with them.

99offroadrngr 05-04-2009 10:33 PM

get new rims

TexasRanger 05-04-2009 10:40 PM

i dont have any personal experience with them, but i do know we wont touch a truck at work that is running spacers

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:06 PM

better to get new rims if you just want them to stick out further. i'm having to get 1 in ones b/c i had a brain fart and didn't spin my rim during the test fit. so i find out my cailper rubs and i need at least a half in cause the backspacing is off:(

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:10 PM

biggest danger is stud length after the spacer is on. you don't want to barely have enough threads.

jckb4000 05-05-2009 12:21 PM

aren't some spacer brands offered with built in new studs... like the ones that are 1.5 in and bigger , ???

pace51 05-05-2009 12:25 PM

You can buy longer studs. That's what I had to do. The 20's I had when I had my 36's didn't have anywhere near enough back spacing and my tires rubbed on the A arm. So I grabbed some pepboys spacers I forget how big I think like 1/8th" or so I just wanted the to come out enough not to rub anymore. Ran them for almost three years without any problems

Yes this come in handy when you SAS your truck so all four wheel can then have the same lug pattern.

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:30 PM

No in fact in Jersey you will not pass inspection with them. They are also hell on your studs when you go to big.

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:32 PM

three in is kinda extreme isn't it? that would have to be for show only right? it would seem like that would be a weak area. even for a cnc machined piece

jckb4000 05-05-2009 12:39 PM

i would like to add spacers to my front, but i know that it might be all sorts of bad, are the wheel bearings the main point of fail?

Yhea if they are to big you will start wearing out you bearing and even start going thru hubs. I'd sugest only getting them if you have to. Like if you already have a tire/rim combo that rubs. Don't get them just for looks. If that's what your going for wear your tires out and get new tires/rims.

darkstar_420 05-05-2009 12:44 PM

i would think the studs would be, look at all that extra stress that your putting on them by moving the wheels out

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:46 PM

hopefully i wont have a bearing problem with 1 in. but if i do it would give me a good reason to do a SAS:)

When the hell are doing on ifs ranger that you need 1" spacers for? That is just freaking nuts.

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:55 PM

i bought some centerlines w/ 33x12.5 off of 05prerunner and we didnt spin em at the prefit like idiots. so when i went to put em on they had a half inch too much backspacing. so instead of getting the cheap slide on spacers i got 1 in w/ built in studs

levelIIrdneck 05-05-2009 12:58 PM

it hit the caliper

Where are the tires rubbing? Usually tires rubbing when you're turning are hitting the backside of the front fender. Spacers will make it worse.
