I've got my CB mounted on some pieces of scrap wood I had in my garage. Screwed em togehter in an L shape and slid the bottom part under my center seat. Antenna's a mirror mount bolted in to the front of my bed. I'll get you some pics tomorrow when its light out. None of my friends like my set up, but its pretty much unused space. Like I said, I'll get you some pics tomorrow

 

Mine just sits on the front seat, until i get a new one and find a way to permanently mount it

Its a 4ft firestick with a mirror mount bolted inside the bed

 

i wanna know too.. i work out in the toolies... like 30+ kms off the main highway down a logging road........ thats all we got out there is CB radio's.

 

just get a really long antenna

But....I'll share here anyway.. lol. Below is my current setup....click the links above to see my smaller, old setup.

It's a Cobra 29LTD BC mounted on the roof using self tappers and some nylon spacers between the bracket and the roof. Yes there's a hole...I had an Explorer Overhead Console that was going up there that never got finished. Sits flush with the headliner. Will be upgrading to nutserts/threadserts soon though. Coax, PA, and power wires are routed above the headliner and down the driverside a-pillar. The ground is 2" and is self tapper into the roof.

There may be a pic somewhere of 3 antenna's on my truck. Back when I was moving stuff around like crazy. lol.



EDIT: 2 was tops on mine. Back when I moved to the front mount from the crappy and horrible toolbox mount that was single, then dual, then back to single and now it's on the front fender like every other truck in my region of the country. lol.

 

haha haven't see any ones on the front fender around these parts , i think duals is over doing it

 

Duals is aboslutely pointless on this small of a truck. Duals have their place...like the freeway because your aiming just forward and not all around. I tried it out with even the proper coax and the antennas are just too darn close to eachtoher. They're fighting one another. Even if you spend the money for hte 'look' by having a dead antenna back there, it's hampering the one usable antenna. Plus, toolbox mounts are junk for performance.

so why do the tool box mounts suck? i may be hooking one up fairly soon and was thinking thats where i was gonna stick mine with a 3 foot fire stick

 

It's all about grounding. The only proper way to ground a toolbox is with ground straps of equal length between the bedwall and the toolbox on each corner of the box. BS and if you ever try to reach to say the front bed hooks on my truck, you'll soon find out why I said screw this and went with an all around better setup. Of course, I'm after a badass radio setup. BSing with friends on the trail and around down while convoying, toolbox mount is just fine without the straps. I was only getting out about 5 mi on the toolbox mount. Now I'm in the 20's.

I just realized, you don't have a manual transfer case. WTF! lol.

 

Haven't for almost a year... My trans mainshaft and the manual tcase housing didn't agree with my locker, grabby clutch, grabby tires, traction bars, and my speedy feet. Or my brand new runs like a bat out of hell engine.

Would the Alon antenna mounts for the tailgate work kinda like your hood mount... Im trying to get better functionality out of my CB. Im about to get a 29LTD WX and i want to get an amp and do my antenna properly so i can get better range.

 

Hey Shane is there a difference in reception having the antenna mounted where you have it as opposed to the Alon mount by the tailgate?

 

Biggest issue with the Alon mount is GROUNDING. Only way to properly do it is wirewheeling both the bracket at both holes and the bed the bracket touches. This introduces rust and corrosion...and corrosion is hell for grounding. If Alon's mount was stainless, this would be a different case since you don't have steel and paint to deal with to fight and find a good antenna ground.


I honestly cannot speak for the rear mount versus my fender mount in regards to reception. All I know is I've got a mild build on my radio and I'm going at least 25mi in and out and it's crystal clear. My local shop wouldn't want anything to do with the Alon mount other than a flag mount. Antenna's the most important part of your radio setup....you can have a stock crap 19dxiv and a good antenna setup and you'd outperform a 29ltd with a poor antenna setup.
