the air box mod is basically a cheap way to get more airflow. some people just remove the round silencer, then other people like me remove the whole front and the right side. you can leave the stock filter in or you could buy a drop in k&n. also there is a how to on here on how to make an adapter for a conical filter.

I know there are alot of opinions on this but mine is that a K&N in the stock airbox with the silencer removed is the best way to go.I have hacked up a stock airbox and had a K&N FIPK.I always resort back to the stock airbox with a K&N and the silencer removed.

Yeah, your lower airbox is probably the biggest stock piece I ganked from the 02 after it was totalled. I'm just glad I got my Hurst and my overlays out of it.

If you cut the airbox, I recommend cutting out only part of the front panel. That's the best place to get more air, and cool air. You don't want warm air from the engine compartment. Since the airbox is right behind the grill, you'll get cool air coming in the grille and into the opening you cut out of the front panel of the airbox. IMO you only need to cut out the bottom 2-3 in. of the front panel to provide more than enough of the amount of air that the engine can can suck in and use and needs.

dont cut it. my 2 cents. you do get more air but alot of it is hot air off of the block which doesnt really help anything. just stick to removing the silencer and buy the K&N drop in filter.just my opinion.
