I have pulled 19.5 MPG average driving mostly highway with some city. Not bad in my opinion but as soon as I hit the street the MPG goes to crap.

 

Because it fits between trees and rock walls in the woods better than a fullsize. I just love Rangers I guess. I want more. lol

 

fullsize is too much for me. I dont need a V8, i dont need worse gas mileage, i dont need to tow more than the 6000lbs my truck is rated for, a fullsize wont go where i like to wheel.

The only larger sized truck i would get is a Midsize like the Tacoma. More room inside, a bit more power and towing capacity.

 

Rangers get the same MPG as a fullsize.

 

You're on crack.... haha... my cousin gets 13 mpg from his '06 150.... I've gotten 20+ on a regular basis... all the way up to 23+

 

I'm averaging about 16-17mpg out of my 250k 4.0 5 spd.

 

I remember this thread from a year ago, anyway I can update my mpg now that I have a scangauge... My last tank I have been driving 100% city and lots of hills and have been averaging 16mpg. That is 2008 3.0 Manual. So yes better than fullsize but still nothing compared to a car. I have also been driving very easily trying to conserve fuel.

 

My dad's Silverado gets 19mpg.

My truck can get 18-21mpg depending on how I drive it.

His is automatic

mine is manual

thats what I originally wanted, but at the time I couldn't afford an F-150 so I went with the Ranger... wish I'd a waited a couple of years, but oh well

 

I had a 2000 F-150 4x4 7700 series with a 5.4L V8. It was a pig on gas but for the most part an awesome truck. I wanted something a little newer and cheaper on gas. I see a big difference in gas mileage between my F-150 and ranger fx4 4.0L V6.

 

Because I had my head up my azz.

 

I just checked my mileage today, it worked out to 18.34 MPG, all city driving.

I put about 200 miles on it since the last fill up and it cost me about $20 to fill up today. So it works out to about $.10 cents a mile, give or take a penny or two.


This is a 2003 Ranger XLT with a 2.3 engine and automatic transmission.

 

dude there is no point in buying an f150. i thought about buying one myself but there aint no point unless you have a job that requires it, or you quads snowmobiles etc, even with a ranger thats all still possible.. my opinion ranger FTW

i needed a vehicle and i had very little cash...i found a turd of a ranger going to the scrap yard....asked the guy how much and took it home....for $400

2 1/2 years and many hours of love and labor and i had the greatest vehicle i've ever owned.

 

I got my Ranger because my 69 F100 got terrible mileage even though I loved it like a child. I miss having a full size truck and probably my next vehicle will be one again. Love the Ranger but not big enough (space) for me and also not big enough for the things I need to haul. So probably when my truck gets close to death or find a great deal I will get rid of it.

 

mine was a gift and we got a good deal on it. i thought a v6 would get better millage. only regrets are its not a 4x4 and its not a v8. i like it though after all i have dont to it. i never planned on it looking anything like it does till i got bored with the same old look.

 

I got a great deal on my LII. Bought it in 04, it was an 03 with 6k on it for $15k. I couldn't really afford the insurance on a bigger truck. If I did had to do it again, I probably would have bought a full size, our gas mileage is about the same. Sorry guys, lol.

 

I bought a 98 ranger, 97 explorer, and a 2005 sport trac.
Then I finally bought an F150 and I love it.
I miss the narrow body for trails but I'll get a trail rig some other day. Got tired of driving a low geared, cramped interior, locked front and rear rig every day on the highway. Plus having to be somewhat cautious off road as it was my daily driver.
I bought the sport trac because of the backseat, but it was cramped with four people. With 33's I never got better than 14mpg on the ranger or the sport trac. I think once I got 17mpg on the Explorer with it completely stock, driving 60mph with the cruise control on for a full tank. Normally it was 14-15 mpg also.

With the F150 I can very comfortably carry 4 or 5 adults, tow more, haul more, and even with 35's the worst I've gotten is 13mpg in cold weather with lots of stop and go, with winter gas.

In the end, gas mileage is the same. Insurance is the same (mine didn't change). And you get a lot more truck.
I'm pretty sure my F150 even has a smaller turning radius than the ranger or the sport trac.
Did I mention that the F150 rides about 10x better than any of the other ranger-based vehicles I've owned?

 

I have owned more trucks than I can think of. But, when it came for me to get a new daily driver I wanted a truck. Something that was made for a long time and was dependable, 4 cyl(less gas), stick(less to go wrong and I can fix it, unlike an auto). I settled on a ranger or either a toyota pu or tacoma. Honestly I got the ranger cause it was cheaper than most of the yotas I was seeing on craigslist. Since I've gotten it, I love it. It's the right size to do everything I need right now.

Look at your needs. I had an offer from a guy to sell his 78 F250 ext cab long bed w/ a 460 to me for $3500. That is absolutely my dream truck. I love that era of Ford and the 460 is my all time favorite engine. I looked at my needs, something dependable to get me to work everyday, lots of aftermarket support, parts from corner parts stores need to be cheap, gets good gas mileage, something to haul a little stuff but not much, and because its a used vehicle needs to be a stick.

I had enough money saved up to buy any practical vehicle I wanted, but this truck fit the bill more than anything else. Why spend more when you could save that money in times like these if they decide to lay me off again or my wife's hours get cut again.

Plus if you don't spend all your money in one trip all at once you some left over for extras. So far I've changed the fluids, added an alarm, and put a new radio in it. Next are new speakers and a clutch kit. Maybe a body lift and new tires if it won't hurt my mileage too much.

Just get one, they're pretty cheap. If you don't like, it's not like you can't resell it and maybe make a profit.

 

I find the ranger alot better off road than a full size, especially dodge 1500 they have to be the worst off road if you dont lift them or anything. I think the ranger's one of the best off road trucks even stock ( FX4 ) than other trucks, I RARELY RARELY get stuck.

Plus its alot easier driving around town, dont care people think its small

 

I've always heard good things about Rangers. As my first vehicle it was within means of my finances. I had just started working construction and wanted a decent truck with a good price range that I could also take off roading. The ranger was perfect in all those areas. Later on down the road I will get a full-size truck but for now the ranger is good truck for me.

 

Why have a 5000 lb truck when a 3500 lb truck will do the job, still look good, be easier to park, and usually get significantly mpg? The only thing I would miss is the V8 exhaust note, which is why you just shoehorn a V8 in there and outrun any V8 full sizer

 

I don't drive much, so that's $20 to fill up, lasts me about 3.5 weeks, so it works out to my gas costing me about $5.71 per week.

 

I got my Ranger because I hate fullsize trucks (too big to park at my work) and I don't tow anything besides my quad. And after owning a few chevy's and imports I was ready for a real truck.
