Bedliner & dirt?

Bedliner & dirt?
Okay, it was my birthday yesterday and i got some $. i want to paint on a bed liner, like herculiner or durabak. but I've got a couple questions for you guys.
1) i am a landscaper, i haul dirt and sand constantly. when i get it out i scrape my shovel against the bottom of the bed & don't even think about it. will i be able to do this with the liner? it seems like i would rip out the bumpy-ness of the bed liner & make holes... that's just what i think would happen, does it really?
2) I'm going to do over the bed rails and tailgate cap, but i'm also going to be getting a paint job soon, should i do it before or after?
3) Herculiner vs Durabak? who has what? just want some reviews of what you have..

I've used Duplicolors Bedliner and a couple other no namers like plasticoat before. Duplicolor held up the best and was the thickest coat but you really need to use there special roller for application. Running your shovel across the bed shouldn't create 2 many holes, and if it does, its very quick to roll some more bedliner down. Preparation is key to having the bedliner stick well and completely adhere.

Spend the money and get the real stuff, seeing as how you are constantly using the bed of your truck. Get them to spray it on thick, line-x is good but I have seen some of the line-x places spray it on thin though, so just make sure they do it right if your going to spend the extra cash to get the real stuff.

i agree. i have Line-X in my truck and i love it. I work in landscaping also so i haul dirt and sand and brush and all of that crap in my truck. couple of lawnmowers too. and I've had no problems with it at all. its great stuff, especially with the warranty. I would definitely spend the extra money for it.

We have Line-X in all our farm trucks but one and it has held up fantastic. I had them coat the bottom of my Samurai (street legal trail rig), bumpers, fenders and lower body line last year. Highly recommended although although I've only used Rhino Lining in our shop's parts truck, doesn't hold it's finish like Line-X.

I have Durabak, I've never actually hauled anything with it in the bed or done anything to risk chipping or scraping it though and it's been under a tonneau cover the whole time I've had it so IDK if it fades. I wrote the tutorial for it, it's on the how-to submission section if you haven't seen it.

I would spend your money on Line-x. I had it in my F-150 and want to get it in my Ranger. It is very durable. I haul dirt, wood chip, and gravel and scrapped the liner with shovels and never had it come off. Also Line-X will repair it for free anywhere in the country if you have the certificate they give you when you have it sprayed. It is expensive, but the best way I believe you could spend your money.

i have herculiner and i wish id gone with Line x the first time. i used the whole gallon(3 thick coats) but didnt use the uv protection so it faded then i used another gallon on it to reapair it cuz it faded and chipped off from hauling bricks it looks good but it will prob get chipped again so far ive spent 200 on herculiner and i will prob have to fix it more
Line x is def a better product it has a harder compound while herculiner is soft and rubbery
it is also a PITA to do it yourself i ended up getting it all over me cuz it splatters when rolling and it didnt come off for a week
so having it done would be worth it for me

i have a rubber bed mat, its about 1/4" thick. you can have your liner done and just toss the rubber mat on the floor. you can chew it up and what not and not royaly screw ur nice liner. its what i plan to do with my truck i have the mat. just need the liner.
little more costley bout could save the floor from some serious abuse, or a dumb coworker chopping into the dirt pile like a ax and killing your new liner.
and as stated before rhino, line x or nothing......imo
