Need to find out what exactly this means and how to go about it to replace it. Read all the stuff in the search about the EGR and how the 2000-2001 Differencial pressure are unreliable and so forth. Somone explain to me how to replace this damn egr low circuit input crap.

I had the same problem, failed smog twice cause of it and got the stupid service engine soon light. I ripped it out, checked the pipe which was good rewelded it back on and than noticed that the bolt was loose. Tightened it up and I was fine. Maybe you just have a loose nut somewhere.

Its the little black looking thing. Its what keeps the mixture consistent. And it connects with the manifold. Best pictures I could get and its got that foil like crap on it but on the pipe that leads down to the manifold. Theres where the bolt was loose for me.

Yea you ahve the OHV motor but I get it, Solenoid is the same so I found it. I'm wondering if I have to replace the little electrical peice on the solenoid or the entire EGR setup that connects to the stock headers. Anyways, if I leave it be will anything happen is my wonder?

Well 1 if its messed up you will get ****tier gas mileage. 2. You won't pass smog and 3. Your check engine light will come on. You say I have the OHV motor... so your pretty much saying I have a POS... yes yes, I know. Honestely, I don't have much experience with it, mine was kind of a lucky shot so for that, hopefully someone else can reply and give you a little more guidance.

Its a 3.0 not a 4.0 also... the 4.0 OHV from 98-00 did not have an EGR valve... so I can't help any on the EGR besides to tell ya thats not an OHV 4.0

The P1400 code cannot involve anything but the DPFE or its wiring. It is purely electrical and says that the sensor value reaching the PCM is near zero. If the sensor is plugged in and the wiring is not damaged, then the sensor itself is probably at fault.

It's a simple part to change. Couple bolts and vacuum lines.
Approx $50 part. Try to get the PLASTIC one, the metal ones corrode.

Looking at that last picture, it's the rectangular box on the far left, under the heater hose running across from the T.

If you're sure the wiring is OK, the sensor can be changed in about a minute. If you know somebody with a similar year Ford and the same sensor, you could easily swap sensors temporarily if you wan't to 'try before you buy'. Ford used the identical sensor on many different models besides the Ranger.

Disconnect the electrical connector and pull it off the two hoses. There are no mounting fasteners. The two tube sizes are different and so are the hoses, so get it on the right way around when you reinstall. Easy.

This is not a Ranger but the sensor is the same one you have:

My check engine light is still on with the insufficient flow problem. An employee at AutoZone said that he had the same problem with an older ranger and he just had to clean out the EGR. I took off my EGR and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner, no help. I sprayed the cleaner in the hoses that go into the EGR, no help. I just today went to a junkyard with Rudy (rudeman85) ( he's putting in cruise control in his 03 and needed a different clock spring), and I got the DPFE sensor deal off a newer ranger with 14k miles and put it in mine on the way home, no help.
What else is there to do? Replace the EGR valve?
Is it maybe good and just needs the ECU reset?
