Hey anyone bought one of these, im contimplating it, never really heard much about it, I have a 1999 but any info on them or pro's and con's everyones noticed would be sweet.

i will get mine tomorrow, but i can't install it until Saturday......i am going to gap my plugs out to .065 and see how it works.....i will let you know!

 

Are you talking about the coils? What is the part number for the 4.0L OHV and how much?

I may be in the minority here, but most people agree that the ignition system we have is already overkill. I can make a 1+ inch spark from my pack with the plugs connected. I zapped myself the other day screwing around under the hood, lol, checking the coil pack boot while running.

I took the wire off and it was arcing back to the pack more than an inch and the truck never stumbled. I moved it a bit further, and it bit me, lol!

Personally, and no disrespect to those selling them, they are totally unnecessary.

 

Honestly ive had more people say ide be wasting my money then telling me to do it....they went with the old saying, if it aint broke dont fix it type thing, and another thing they said was it really never increases HP

 

nah it wont increse HP..i cant see it..unless someone dynos..Maurice get er done dino her up before and after!! alls ive done to upgrade is NGK iridium plugs i think it killed my gas mileage and maybe some new wires!.

 

lol. Thanks for the polite way of putting it. One advantage is sheer cost in a replacement issue. When I was experiencing miss fires, Auto Zone wanted $150 for a replacement coil pack. I did not check anywhere else. I just walked out a little surprised at the amount of $$'s. If it was blue I would have paid it and walked out with a big smile on my face.

here is the thread i started about it.....my truck is 45 minutes away at my brothers tore apart still from the spring swap....i just got the coil yesterday so i wont get a chance to install it till Saturday when i go back to finish my spring swap...

Yes, it's absolutely a cost effective replacement, and there have been some problems with our coil packs with internal arcing and other failures. An improved replacement that is cost effective is for SURE a benefit.

Also, engine "dress up" is a big part of modding for many truck build ups and I understand that. From that standpoint it also makes sense.

I really don't want to imply it's a bad product at all Wayne -- I respect your business and I know you wouldn't sell it if it were junk.

I've watched the launch of this product but I wasn't going to "kibitz", but in this case the question was asked and that's my honest opinion: that suprisingly enough the Ford DIS is a powerful ignition from the factory.

But that doesn't mean that a replacement coil doesn't make sense for some folks.
