See if you can find a Chevy or Geo Prizm. They're mechanically the same as the Toyota Corolla, but not as ugly, and have horrible resale value.

Otherwise, the Prizm is a good deal, but if it were me, I'd go Sentra or Civic over Corolla. The yotas are so darn boring to drive.

CIVIC! (Cousin has a '93 Civic Sedan and he is getting 40mpg)

Focus....Slowbalt...

Honestly I'd stay away from Kia's. TOO many nightmares with them.

I agree with the 'Yota's are boring statement. I have a 2009 Toyota Camry LE (rental) and the only thing I like about it is the mpg vs. the Ranger. It's 2009 and I feel as if i'm dead and in plastic hell. $21k and not even a g-damn i-pod dock? WTF?

i havent filled my ranger up in a very long time, but when it did it cost me $80 CDN to fill and it would last me 4 days, that was driving 35-40kms one way to work. my dad bought a 2000 focus station wagon here in bc canada for 6000 bucks.

I have a spreadsheet going of my gas and repairs not including oil changes. Numbers so far for this year:

824.3 Gallons of gas used
12,478 Miles driven
$1786.72 in gas
$664.99 in repairs(parts and labor)<---More to come but still low for this year

Grand total of $2451.71

i just write the milage on the receipt and throw it into the glove box. i've got almost all of them except for the first two tanks. you must be heavy with the skinny. i fill up every two weeks, $65 and it gets me anywhere from 500-550kms. that is like 90-95% city driving. i dunno if you got an auto or a stick.

i wish i had a excel program on this laptop so i could do things like that.

Just saw this thread.

I had a '93 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a 1.8L manual tranny. That would get 34MPG doing 70 on the interstate and about 20-22 around town. I rebuilt the engine at 180k and retired it at 240k miles. it now sits in my dad's chicken coop.

There wasn't much to break on that car and it ran great. You can stop and turn on a dime...got me into trouble a few times.
