Damn that hurts to see that damage,but atleast you're okay and the truck isn't a loss.

We seem to have had a real string of bad luck lately with all these accidents and roll overs. I've had a couple of close calls lately too.

It seems lately I've been having more and more and this one just caught up with me. The damange really isnt even that bad. Bumper and grill, and headlight took all the hit. I just went down to the shop where it was being held and it was towed away to a collision place to be checked out. I'll be bringing it to a Ford dealership not to far from me soon and i'll have them fix it up good as new. I'm just glad I wasnt in a car because I would have probably been going faster and I would have been lower. At least I have another ranger haha

This is why cars suck lol. About 10 years ago, my mom hit a deer with an 89 2 door Blazer while doing about 45 mph. The damage didn't look bad,but it pushed everything back far enough that the fen belt snapped and lowe rad hose split. She managed to drive to where she was going, but it overheated and the engine seized by the time we went to get it repaired.

Sorry about your truck - at least you're OK.

Have a friend who hit a deer while driving his Honda Civic - deer ended up in the passenger seat, car was a write-off, lucky no one was hurt (except the deer).

Like you he was so pissed, he gave the deer to the first person who asked for it (quite a few people stopped to ask if he was OK). Almost got him in trouble because the policeman who came by for the accident report asked where the deer was - he told him, and still had proof that the deer hit his car - broken windshield and door with deer fur imbedded, part of deer antler stuck in dash, etc.

Know of a few other cases of deer vs. vehicles; vehicles always lose one way or another, never mind the deer.

BTW, deer like to travel along the clear right-of-ways where power lines are located - easier than running through the brush and treed areas, so watch out near those areas.

Law up here says if it's road-kill it's yours - only way you can get away with killing those suckers out of season, but still not worth it.

yep those same rules apply to where Iam. Pretty much everything you said was correct, this was around a power line too, and it was a full moon, so I bet there moving alot at night lately. Just sucks but at least its fixable and im okay.

Yeah, and I have to stress - things can be fixed; people not so easily.

That said, it always hurts to see damage to a nicely kept vehicle.

And Kyle, anyone who has hit a deer, or had a deer hit them, has a right to be POed. It's just plain crazy. No rhyme or reason to it. Even a near miss will scare the heck out out you. And they always manage to side swipe you - if they stop dead in the road ahead of you (depending on the distance, and your speed) - and I've had that happen to me - at least you sometimes have a fighting chance to stop.

Had another friend who got side-swiped by a deer while he was driving his Windstar - not only did the deer dent every panel on the right side of the vehicle (front fender, pass side front door, sliding pass side door and rear quarter panel), but to add insult to injury, it left a long streak of **** along the side. That deer was toasted too, and again, some yahoo stopped and took it away - like you, my buddy was so POed he didn't want to even look at the creature.

Can't make these stories up - reality boggles the imagination.

Anyway, glad you chose to share your story - may help another site member keep his/her head up in high-risk areas.

Yeah it was actually a crazy experience,thanks though for your stories as well. I just can't believe it happend, one second I was thinking about it and not more then a second later it happened, its weird. I'm lucky the damage isn't worse than it is it's just a quarter panal. Only thing I'm worried about is when they paint the new panal is will it match the rest of the truck completely? I hope it does. I'm waiting for word from the collision repair center that towed it away yesterday to have checked over. I should have word by monday. Then its off to a ford dealership to get fixed. I'm just glad insurance covers it and that I'm okay and no one else got hurt.

With today's paints,technology and skills, they'll fix your truck up so good you'll never even notice it was ever wrecked.

I had a 1987 Toyota Celica and I got in a minor accident and had the exact same damage you had on your truck. The car was silver, and they had to paint the new fender,paint half of my door and paint the new bumper. You could never tell that car was ever repaired.

Also,because your truck is still relatively new, the paint will not had faded very much making it easier to match.

Thanks for the relief man. I'm just glad the worst thing hit was the quarter panal, I could care less about the bumper and the headlight and grill. I guess I never really knew how much i liked that truck till it got hit, ha, sucks like you said though, at least its new, the new paint should match up exact. I'll have to wait a few weeks and see. I just want it back :\

Yeah I wish I didn't live near it either but I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, don't think I could have avoided it too well. The only thing I care about is the left quarter panal because that will need to be completely replaced. Bumper/headlight and grill should be an easy replacement as well because those arn't painted parts, well the grill is but... :sigh: Although I don't know if the door could be messed up either since that wouldn't close right. As mentioned above with todays technology and paints it probably will match exact and I won't even know. I just can't get my mind off it which sucks.

Just be glad you didn't hit a moose. That's like hitting a semi head on, if not worse.

Hitting a horse or a cow would be up there, too :blackeye:.

My brother hit a deer in a 96 Explorer several years ago. The head smacked and dented the passenger side quarter panel and then the whole carcass went underneath, ruining the meat:thumbsdow.

After the repairs, the Explorer looked 10x better. It got a new hood, both headlights, passenger quarter panel, and bumper. The body shop matched the paint color perfectly, and the front grill was upgraded from the original chrome/gray (which was faded/worn) to the chrome trimmed black design.

I'm glad the OP is okay. If the insurance is letting you go through the dealer, your truck should be as good as new!

Not so often a horse or cow darts out on the road infront of you like deer and moose are notorious for doing.

They may not dart, but hitting them coming around a blind curve wouldn't be any fun!

looks like you didnt even need insurance.. only a fender and a bumper.. cheap junkyard pulls and you wouldnt have to worry about your insurance going up.

My insurance isn't going to go up I already talked to them about it so I'm set there. Ha I've never heard of a horse or cow being in the road, I guess thats possible too theres alot of those around me. Nah i did, I don't know if anything else is messed up, like my door, and my quarter panal needs replacement and paint. I'm just glad it wasn't worse. Yeah I'm sure when I get it back it will be even better than new. I got lucky.

Wow, I seem to have a lot of "animals in the road" stories.

I live in a heavily urban area, but I visit about an hour's drive north quite a bit. Amazing what kind of wildlife there is out there. In the city, you only see small road-kill like squirrels and raccoons - but even they can tear off a front valence if you hit it in the right (or really "wrong") spot.

Have a friend who hit a porcupine (again on a back road) - not going too fast, probably around 80 kph - about 50 mph - and cracked the heck out of the front spoiler.

Know someone else who was driving home late at night on a back road when all of a sudden, the road was filled with cows and he was doing "dodge-'em moves" trying to avoid them. They were all just standing there - and luckily he missed hitting any of them. Ended up there was a hole in a farmer's fence, and all the cows just wandered off and ended up on the road.

At least twice, I've run over small animals - literally run right over them - they somehow missed getting hit by the truck and the wheels - I didn't hear any thump or feel the wheels going over anything, and didn't see any road kill in the rear view mirror when I looked back - and I always think of them as the luckiest (once a skunk, once a jackrabbit) animals in southern Ontario.

As for your truck, Kyle, the damage seems mainly to be to "body stuff" - bumper, valence, headlight, fender, etc. - stuff that basically can be replaced and it'll be as good as new. And you didn't suffer any mechanical (engine) damage, and the frame seems to be good, and it didn't hit your wheel - with risk of steering/alignment/brake (calipers, rotors etc.) damage, and the long-term aftereffects that those can have.

As for matching the paint - they can do wonders these days - a good body shop guy will mix and match your paint job exactly - you won't even know it was in an accident by the time they're done. Doesn't appear that you have the type of damage that can cause all sorts of problems down the road. And you're gettting it done at a dealer, so you can always get on their case if they don't do it right.

BTW, get the collision shop to check out the whole side - if the door doesn't close right, get them to look at it since it fits against the front fender that got hit - and be sure it's all repaired to your satisfaction. Again, lucky your insurance covers it and it'll be repaired professionally.

Guess I'm not getting it done at a dealer now but a very good body shop in the area is taking it in. I should get word from them tomorrow with an estimate, I guess it's still in good hands and they seem to have a very good history of body work so I think they will do a pretty good job. Those stories are nuts man, haha. Thank you though for the reasurement, and I'll keep you updated.

No problem about the stories - just to let you know you're not alone in your experience - and also to let you know that in these situations it can go either way.

Took a road trip last year with friends down to Atlanta, Georgia and on the way home, through Tennessee, at about 9 or 10 at night, saw three deer just standing at the side of the interstate - looked close enough to touch as we whizzed by at 60 - 70 mph.

Decided about then that maybe it would be a good idea to find a place to spend the night. Who knows? a minute or two either way and they could have been in the middle of the highway.

You know, it's funny, you'll replay the incident many, many times, and eventually you'll see that in hindsight there were a lot of other things that you could have done (e.g. been driving a little faster, or slower; could have stayed a bit longer before setting out, or left a little earlier; could have taken a different route, etc.) that would have avoided the accident.

BUT - when you look at the situation AS IT OCCURRED, you'll see there's not a heck of a lot you could do - totally unforeseen, unavoidable.

And I think you'll come to realize (when everything's all fixed up) that the most important thing was that (except for the deer) no one was hurt.

Almost feel sorry for the deer (except for all the crap this put you and your truck through).

One final thought: a few years ago, I read in one of the newspapers up here about a young lady (she was in her early twenties) who died in a single car accident. It was determined that she had suddenly swerved to avoid an animal that had crossed in front of her vehicle. In an interview, her father said something along of the lines of, "She loved animals, and would do anything to avoid hurting one."

To my mind, that's not much of a fair trade - something to think about.

Yeah honestly looking back now that I'm not really pissed anymore, I really do feel sorry for the deer. It was just the night befor that I had seen 2 deer on my way home, same exact road, a mother and baby deer. I come through 1 night after and just nail one, I hope it wasn't the mother. I do feel bad for it, but it did mess up my truck a little but that can be fixed, the damage isn't even bad. The deer can't and is probably on somebodys dinner plate as I speak lol. I'm glad I'm okay though and am glad no body else got hurt. It was all just bad timing on my part, I could of left earlier, gone a different route, or been going faster etc, to be honest I don't really know how fast I was going when I hit the deer I was pretty tired I'd say no more than 40 mph. Something must of been telling me to slow down a couple nights ago because I could of hit it going alot faster since I do travel that road home from work at night at about 50-55 mph usually. Nothing you can do though but move on and get the truck fixed, which I'm not to worried about at this piont because it will come back in better than new shape just like befor. Very crazy experience though, and remember anything can happen. I will be a lot more cautious now at night, that is for sure, especially when I get that truck home and start driving it again....... But thank you man for the advice and stories, I appreciate it and that last comment, I'm really fortunate that nothing worse had happened.

Don't worry about the doe and baby you saw the night before - it is likely they went a lot farther along in their travels and were out of the area - they don't usually linger when they're on the move. (I have a friend who runs a Wildlife Refuge Centre and I've learned a lot about various critters just through conversaton.)

As for the guy having venison at your expense, well, a lot of time the impact will burst a lot of the innards, and that kind of ruins the meat. Plus it's pretty messy dressing a carcass - good luck to anyone who likes doing that stuff.

And to be honest, if you had the venison in front of you, no matter how tasty it may be to someone else, you'd more likely choke on it, knowing what it did to your truck.

Haha it fits it well now I suppose. Yeah true, will do man I should get word from the collision center that has my truck today for an estimate on how much it will take to fix it up. Should go smoothly.
