wtf is inside my stock ranger pass side seat lol

so im selling my old stock seats this morning. i was gonna take the airbag thing off the bottom of the pass seat to see if i could somehow get the light off on the dash. well is there some sort of gel or some sh!t in the seat? i dont wanna take it apart if that stuff is gonna get everywhere, i'd rather just take the bulb out from behind the dash lol

I've replaced mine in the 04 and there was no gel crap in there.

I tried just removing the airbag light on mine, but the dinged really loud for the first few minutes of driving, then again after a half hour or so. It's annoying as sh.t.

mine makes no noise. idk if yours is the same, the newer rangers have an automatic sensor in the seat the detects if there is a child seat on it or not i guess. if pressure is applied more to the middle of the seat im assuming.

i do believe it has something to do with the weight sensor for the airbag.
thats the only reason i havent done the explorer seat swap. I didnt know how to get around the auto sensor

damn thats gay dude. i don't know what it would be though or what would happen if you messed with it. now i know if i buy a new truck to get leather seats so i don't have to worry about it unless you figure out what to do with it haha

Tys 4x4 FTW 06-29-2010 10:43 AM

im not too worried about it. i cant even see the light anyways because my scanguage lol

vista4.0 06-29-2010 10:47 AM

well there ya go then lol

Tys 4x4 FTW 06-29-2010 10:49 AM

what im curious about, is does it disable the pass side airbag when the light is on on the dash or what

vista4.0 06-29-2010 10:52 AM

Well thats what I was thinking. Kinda why i didnt mess with it.

i read somewhere about a guy doing the exploder seat swap on a 07/08 and moving everything over

Tys 4x4 FTW 06-29-2010 11:51 AM

meh too much hassle! i was gonna try that, but i dont wanna molest my stock seats, especially considering the guy will be here in a few min to buy them hahaha

It activates the airbag, if there is no weight on the seat and you get into an accident where the bags deploy i do believe it stops the pass. bag from deploying when there is no weight on the seat, saves on replacing parts after and accident

... i have no idea what that goop might be, but i put enzo leather seats in my truck and kept the pretension sensor from my old seats , hookedem back up and stuffed them under the new seats , if your airbag light is on you bags won't deploy..

yea, maybe it's circut goo. you know, if there is weight on the seat, the goo spreads and there is a complete circut. resulting in use of said airbag. however, no weight, no complete circut. maybe similar to how the silicone in a computer works.

i know that if i put my backpack or laundry on the seat, the light comes on but if the girlie is there, it's functioning and no light.

vista4.0 06-29-2010 02:09 PM

its something like anything under 40 pounds(dont quote me on that number) will cause the airbag to turn off.

morris 06-29-2010 02:55 PM

so, a child is not allowed in the front seat of a vehicle, but they put a weight limit on the sensor?

djfllmn 06-29-2010 05:00 PM

your airbags wont deploy in an accident if the light is on the dashboard

morris 06-29-2010 08:58 PM

right, but the laws or whoever say children under # lbs or the age of # have to ride in the back seat. in the case of our beloved rangers with ext cabs. the rear sear which doesn't have a safety rating is worse then the front seat which by law shouldn't have a child in it to begin with.

kinda a catch 22 don't you think?
