well ford calls it a skid plate but it isnt even worth calling that, I think its just to keep sticks and small things from catching the lines under the radiator and poking the radiator.

edit: poogster beat me to it

I have the 2001 off road, its more of a cover over the gas tank and other areas towards the middle, but no LS. I think LS was a possible option but not standard on the off road XLT

well what about the step sides they dont come with fender flares, but i have 4.10 LS rearend the skids, tow hooks, and also they came with the 16" wheels where the regular 4X4 only had 15" wheels i think

just a plate that bolts over the housing...i wouldn't call it a "real" skid plate.

I have a "99 Ranger dealer brocure that lists all the packages and then it has a disclaimer at the bottom of the page in fine print that states "package group items may vary from time to time".... LOL... guess it depended on what they felt like putting on them that day.

There was a reference chart somewhere I saw that you could determine whether you had LS or not, cant remember if it was on this website or somewhere else... I'll look for it... I was able to determine for sure mine did have it from it (plus it spins the inside rear wheel when turning real sharp in loose gravel going uphill)

do a burn out. If you have two skid marks thats LS, if only 1, you dont have LS.

that plastic thing under the radiator is actually an Air Dam. it forces the air under the truck up into the radiator. If you actually took a minute to look at that plastic piece, youd notice that, its an Air Dam and not a plastic skid plate. It elaso helps protect the AC lines. That plastic piece has to come off in order to put the front side plate on.

Also, for 04's they came out with the XLT Value Pkg, which comes with the 4.0, 4wd, cruise, pwr windows/locks, styleside bed. and thats it.. no tint, no 4 doors, no LS. and no skid plates, no fogs... I added all that **** myself.

Also, the level 2 shocks make the truck less 'bouncy' on the road, and make it stick to the road alot better.

Not necessarily. I love doing burnouts.....and if the road is angled just right, I can turn both and leave two fat black marks. And I KNOW i have an open rear end.

oh yea....I don't do burnouts....I do powerbrakes.
