If you're a pavement pounder

All the FX4's in my town, Rangers up to Super Duties, are street queens just to display how much money you have to burn.

I'm the outcast with scratches, rock chips, and mud spray all over my truck. I'm not in the richy FX4 club around here. lol

My 2005 XLT value package is the 2door supercab 4x4, auto, cruise control, 6disc cd/mp3, fog lights, chrome bumpers, tow hooks, carpet, leather steering wheel, 4:10 gears, a/c. I added the front and transfer case skid plate. The only thing it's missing from a FX4 is power windows, locks, mirrors, lsd rear and gas tank skid. Value Package all the way!!!!

Ok, but who the F**K would buy FX4 and not get the Level II? That is just stupid? A SERIOUS waste of money

Thank you. My thoughts exactly..

I dunno, maybe things have changed, but in '03 when I bought my LII the price difference between a comparably equipped FX4 and LII was only $1k after rebates, discounts, and other horse-poo. The extra features were well worth that extra grand if you ask me. Hell, I felt the chrome shifter package was worth that extra green by itself. I can't tel you why, but it just makes the truck 'feel' that much sportier.

My salesperson couldn't believe the difference either. I had pretty well marked the LII off as an extravagance and decided it wasn't worth it. At the time I couldn't get the power-doo-dads and cruise control (mandatory for me) w/o going w/ the FX4 package. After a disapointing test drive in an FX4 I backed the thing into a spot next to my LII and finally noticed what the dealer's oversized tag (not the window sticker) said. I asked the saleswoman to go confirm the price w/ her manager because neither one of us believed it.

It is my understanding that new Ranger sales are doing worse than ever before. If that's true, then you shouldn't be paying anywhere NEAR sticker for a Ranger regarless of trim. That compresses the whole pricing scale down a bit.. and makes the premium for an FX4 or LII package that much less.

FYI I paid ~$19.5k for my '03 LII off my dealers lot. Sticker was something like $28k. Sticker means jack!

i've seen 60/40's in fx4's and level II's

Rear slider and privacy glass was an XLT thing

Two tone didn't start until last year

On an LII? Where? I'm pretty sure buckets were part of the LII package..

You're right about the regular '03+ FX4. I test drove a couple '03 FX4's w/ the bench. I would have prefered a bench in my LII.

I love my 04 FX4. I'm sure the torsen rear end is nice but i am quite happy with my stock L/S. If it made a big deal to me, i'd rather have no rearend diff and upgrade to a locker. And my FX4 package I believe looks quite the same as a LVL 2, altho there are some differences.

I think manual/manual would be fun for a bit, but I do like my automatic often, especially in traffic!

That's where I really part ways w/ you.. I'm very into my manual trans. My solution is to avoid the traffic, not the shifting.

And when you go for the manual trans the LII gets that much sexier w/ the nice chrome shifter. (Or shifters in the case of the '02 FX4 and '03 LII!)

People laugh, but the chrome shifter package really was one of the biggest reasons I bought my truck at the end of the day. Quite frankly I didn't think much of the silver and had my heart set on another black truck.

I have seen listings of mainly newer trucks, but since I am new I will ask. How do I know if I have an fx or fx2, what rear end spline and gear do I have? What package would be appropriote to call it? Does it have a beefed up suspension?

1999 fx4 xlt (as per the decals) ext cab, 3.0/auto overdrive. chrome bumbers/rims/grill, no fender flairs, auto 4x4 shifting, power windows/locks/mirrors, bench cloth seat, carpet floor (no mats with it), slider rear window, black tow hooks front (dont know about the rear), I think factory tint windows, jump seats.

I'd say you got ripped off considering they didn't use that title, fx4, until 2002. Not to mention the fact that your truck only has a 3.0 and not a 4.0.

You've been had, my man.

A fancy graphic that can up the selling price by $500-$4k depending on condition and year of the fx4.

Ok, I am now going to call in the stupid police......I have to say that since I bought the truck friday I have spent more time on this site reading than I have driving it.

Its graphics are 4x4 off road, not fx4.

You are VERY TRUE! No 60/40 was put in a FX4 LEVEL II.

A kid down the street from me has an 03 LII with a 60/40

I guess whoever owned it before put it in there then. He has the manual tranny and tcase with a 3 inch body lift and said there have been no problems with either shifters too. It's a weird truck I suppose.

That would be right if you've got the tow hooks and what not. I thought you meant it had FX4 decals on it.

I did, but like I said, stupid police need to be contacted. I had read the fx4 designation so many times on the forum I thought I had also read it on the truck!!!!

stupid is as stupid does.

lol

That's what I thought you meant but then again it kinda sounded like you were saying that you needed to call the stupid police(insulting the cops)about the dealer ripping you off.
