duct tape?

elijahlucian 08-18-2010 07:59 PM

hmm i dont think that would work. it's basically shattered.. must have been under pretty high pressure...

OTRtech 08-18-2010 08:00 PM

That is an abortion someone added to bypass a plugged heater core or to facilitate flushing the cooling system.

Thanks for the popcorn.

elijahlucian 08-18-2010 08:01 PM

really. but what is the yellow y-joint called?

KLC 08-18-2010 08:01 PM

Why can't you take it off and take it with you to a parts store?

elijahlucian 08-18-2010 08:03 PM

well everything is closed now. i was hoping to call before i went. in case they didn't have it so i wasn't driving all over the city looking for this part.

OTRtech 08-18-2010 08:04 PM

It is a 'barbed hose Y' . Pick one up at any hardware store.

edit to add

Most likely 5/8" or 3/4"

elijahlucian 08-18-2010 08:10 PM

thank you so much OTR

KLC 08-18-2010 08:10 PM

Like you said, it's just a hose Y.

elijahlucian 08-18-2010 08:15 PM

yeah. seems simple. then why do the 5 parts places i called tonight have NO CLUE what i'm talking about. I said "Y hose connector" instead of "hose Y" I'm pretty sure if it was that obvious they would have figured it out. "barbed hose y" could be it. I'll try 1st thing tomorrow. thanks for the straight answer OTR

That doesn't look like an automotive part. Probably failed because it was designed for water, not antifreeze coolant.

elijahlucian 08-19-2010 10:03 AM

yeah i think you're right. when i took the old part off it was so melted that it almost didnt come out of the hose.

im replacing both connections today. i have just regular 5/8 hose connectors. im getting rid of this pointless hose.
