Yet Another Post Seeking CB Mounting Input
I have no freaking idea where to mount the CB I picked up from Radio Shack. I like leaving things hidden and tucked away, mainly so people won't see something and have a desire to smash in a window. If I get an amp down the road I'm going to mount it inside the jack storage compartment (I'm moving the jack and tools to my storage box in the bed). The one place I've thought of mounting the CB is in the back of the Explorer full-length console, considering the vents back there are only for show and serve no purpose. I don't like the idea though because I have to reach back to fiddle with knobs and as much as you can do things by touch, I'd feel safer with the controls in full view.
I thought of just mounting the CB with velcro to the side of the console or to hide it in the glove box, again building off the idea of hiding things from plain view. This wouldn't work well if I have a passenger for they will have a glove box in their lap the whole trip. I might mod the wires to use a connector, but then I have to hook up and install the darn thing every time I use it. It will fit inside the console, but then I lose some of that space, plus I have to have the lid up to see the controls. Argh, I think I'll just velcro it to the side of the console. Any other suggestions, ideas? Note that I have an EATC already installed, so that slot is filled and I really don't want to remove any of the cubbies in my console (I like it way too much). |
what about to the bottom of the dash facing up?
thats hos i have it and its not visible unless you really look for it |

What is a good cb to get ? I know i want one but not sure what to get . the only brand i know of is cobra. I think i read that some have a much longer range and that sounds useful.

This thread is in the process of being hijacked. I'll spork your ass for that!!!
J/K, tis all good. I just got a deal on a Radio Shack one. I heard Maxon and Cobra are both good brands. |

Argh....well, here are my options in my eyes:
1. Mount it to the ceiling in front of the OHC 2. Velcro it to the side of the full-length console 3. Velcro it at the bottom right of the steering column Feedback anyone? |
im gonna mount mine on the back of the cab between the seats

2 Attachment(s)
i had mine on the back firewall.
Attachment 212585 After a few uses i realized it was inconvient[?] there. but i learned all the controls by touch, so it became easier. i now have it above the mirror Attachment 212586 i like it there. not in my way. I do occasionally bump my head on it. ohh and the girlfriend uses the mirror alot on the pass. side, so she has to take the mic down to move the visor. |
I have the OHC mounted up, so I can't put it there. I might mount it next to the OHC or right behind the sun visor.

Argh, I have the other style of full length console. If I could get one of those consoles, I would and possibly swap out my full length console. Argh, the quest continues to figure out where to mount it. I'm probably going to custom glass a mount for it or make some sort of mount for it in the front compartment of the console (the part that goes flush to the dash).
