ok after installing my new front axle i seem to have hit a snag and i know just about nothing in this department.


basically i unhooked the lines two weeks ago during the tear down, thought i sealed them up pretty good but to find out the next morning i did, they had dripped all the brake fluid on the ground. master cylinder reservoir had nothing on the front side and on the back towards the firewall was still brake fluid (something like a split tank.

after 1 week of it sitting like that i got my lines hooked up and just filled the master cylinder reservoir. today my dad and brother bled the brakes, but only did the front...

so when i got home i bled the rears then back to the front. ive got clean fluid running out of all the bleeders and went through quite a bit of fluid.

still no brake pressure when i start the truck, i seem to have it when the truck is off. i pulled the abs control fuse, number 14. still loose all brake pressure when its running.


so here are my thoughts... did i not bleed it enough and i still have air in them?

do i need to use a power bleeder? currently i just pump the brakes and release the bleeder. (2 man job)

did i ruin the master cylinder because it had no fluid in it for a while?

is the abs module effecting this?

anyone know if other people that did the SAS do something special to the master cylinder / abs module????

try to bleed it at the abs module. just crack the lines first. if that doesnt work, have someone put their foot on the pedal, crack the lines, let them push it all the way to the floor, close the lines... repeat a few times. the lines have a nice air cavity in them since they come out the top and curve down.

 

as in the lines coming out of the abs module going to the brakes? crack those?

heck i just wish someone was around that could just pump the brake pedal for me....

brake fluid washes off great with just plain water.

 

yea its not too bad to clean up.

anyone think that my master cylinder might not create enough pressure for the front calipers?

96 Jeep XJ Cherokee. They are single piston. I just dont seem to get any response out of them and they are rebuilt ones from napa. they dont move or anything. i would still think i would have pressure though.

i can here the back brakes and fell them working just nothing from the front.

 

you have air somewhere man. you shouldnt have a problem with those calipers. just crack the lines first, if you see the slightest bubble, you have air. crack the lines at the calipers too. I know this may sound like a dumb question, but are the bleeders on top of the caliper, I have seen as simple of a mistake as someone putting them on the wrong sides turn into an all day project.

bleeders are on the bottom, i mixed them up so i could not remember which side they go on.

is it top or bottom?

 

i know i would work on it all night if i had another hand oh well. guess its not ready to be on the road yet.

 

bleeders must be on TOP! thats your problem right there!!! booyaa another one for the books

its because the air goes to the top and fluid to the bottom?

man i feel like a moron... i can build a whole front suspension but i can't put calipers on right. gah..

its a simple mistake, you are by no means a moron, your truck looks great and you did excellent work!!! Like I said, I have seen this happen...

 

go fix it NOW!!!

 

what blows my mind is i had them on right once but when i took them off while i was working on the truck i got them switched...

 

go get josh out of work or where ever he is and get his *** there.. lurer him there by telling him there is beer and **** watch how fast he will move... but tell him he gets it after he helps cause he is gonna be mad lol
