While replacing the shocks on the rear of my truck I found a little crack in the frame. I checked it again the other day only to find it got larger. I yanked the bed off my truck and I found yet another crack. Here's some pictures:

Time to back half that thing! Or.....find a good condition rear frame half and bolt it to the front frame half.

Red_Ak_Ranger 08-17-2009 12:31 AM

Man you're good with trucks, get a welder and plate and fix that **** up!

Toms994x4 08-17-2009 12:44 AM

I may just get another ranger. ****ty thing is I already bought 4.56's and install kits to regear the SOB. If I do end up getting another ranger i'm going to strip this thing down and send it packing. I'm going to keep everything except the frame for spare parts or maybe part it out. I've already spent close to 3k on it. I paid $3100 for it.

Notice how the spare tire carrier is completely rusted off. I've also replaced a section of the rear frame already. I did that about a year ago.

That sucks man. Send the bed and 4.56's my way.

CBFranger 08-17-2009 08:13 AM

Looks safe.

Drive it down a bumpy road really fast to make sure it'll hold up. lol

freddie 08-17-2009 08:25 AM

Meh, just touch it up with a little spray paint, good as new right? JK

Its a relief to see a non-Ohio truck with a crusty frame like most trucks in OH have.

Damn, it's a good thing you found that... Some JB weld, a bit of Elmers glue and some construction paper will fix that right up!

You guys crack me up. I had a guy on another site post a picture of duct tape and he said "That'll do it".

Freddie- This POS was originally a PA truck. After that it went to Wilmington which is a city on the coast of NC.

Ranger- I'm looking for another Bright Atlantic Blue Ranger and if I find one i'll stuff the gears in that.

That is the pits!
Question though, the black box and tank in the center of the pic that has the hose going to the gas tank?
I think that is what I have spent a few hours searching for, CHARCOAL CANISTER?

Can't believe I just found your post. Yes, that's it.

JB Weld is your friend!

Danger06Ranger 11-13-2009 12:22 AM

*Note to self, plate and Por-15 frame*

From_Cars_To_Trucks 11-13-2009 01:14 AM

drill some holes in the frame and use some zip ties...yeah that will do the trick :006::icon16:

johndeeregarner 11-13-2009 10:00 AM

Just weld it up! Its not that hard. I do it all the time. Once your done just sand the frame down and paint it. Problem solved.

leadfoot 11-14-2009 02:39 PM

My frame is very rusty, now I know where to check.
This also reminds me of another story, I went to a car show and started looking at an old truck (model-T era) which had a wooden frame. The frame was maybe two 8"x2" planks of wood and sealed like a deck. While I was looking at the truck, the owner just noticed that one part of the frame had almost cracked in half and that is was not safe enough to drive home. He was pissed. Elmers wood glue migt have helped

Those shocks look brand new, did you notice the cracks while putting them in? If you took it to a shop to get them installed, the tech should get a face check from your fist. Something like that would be hard NOT to notice while under there.
