$80 lesson on relays and light bulbs. *ball of Flame*

Well I bought some Piaa BH5? maybe its B5? i think BH5 is ram heh... anyways ya, so these bulbs are supposedly compatible with 9005. well their not =( the neck of the bulb is too big... so, i spent like $20 on these suckers shipped, i said, Fck it, ill make it work.. so i got em in, sorta, and WOW what a difference. it was like a second set of headlights -literally. but their like, only half in the socket. heh

so i go on a road trip thru some puddles that leaped out in front of me, and a cpl weeks go by, low and behold, fog lights dont work! doh! so, i take em out, look at em and, im like, eh they prolly got wet and burned em out even tho the lil wires arnt broke - cause they werent seated right, the lil rubber washer didnt mean anything, so i tossed em, but didnt put a new set in right away, waited a wek put new set in, and they still dont work! pop the hood... now, this gets hairy, we got well, their new, like, never been used, but the old style relays, with the metal housing, anyways theres a giant hole burned in the bootm of it... WHOOPS~! heh, no wonder they dont work, me n dad havent figured this one out yet, but i replaced the relay with the chinese rplacement which is made of all things - plastic. and it works... we think that, the hole coulda possibly been formed when me n D soldered one of the lil doohickeys on for the tabs on the relay, but i dunno, it didnt look burnt at the time, and when i took the reay off that lil clip thats goes over the tab was welded together heh i doubt theres a short, i over looked everything, and all wiring is run by 14gauge outdoor 3 wire extension cord heh... makes it easy running new wire for gadgets....hmm now for the questions:

was it grounded - yes
was it fused? - well sorta, automatic resetting circuit breaker. ya ya LOL i know i gotta buy a fuse, i think 10amp? heh... so ya, when ur lights dont work, check ur harness before u toss $80 light bulbs out in the garbage

If you were not making a good enough contact to the terminals of the bulb then that would be the cause of this. Poor connections=High resistance, High resistance=extreme heat overtime.

HOLY COMMA USE!

Of the 389 words you typed, somehow you were able to fit 48 commas in there! I'm not trying to be a cynical A-hole....I just thought it was funny!

Actually the HB5 bulb is compatible with the 9007 bulb which is what your headlight takes and is a dual filament bulb. Your fog lights require a 9145 bulb which is also interchangeable with bulb numbers 9005,HB3.
