98' 3.0L into 4bt Diesel

Hey, I have a 1998 ford ranger xlt 3.0L automatic transmission. It recently blew the engine. I have always wanted a diesel truck and I have realized no matter what I decide to do with it it will cost a lot of money and time to fix. I don't really want to go back to stock. So I was wondering what all would need to be done and what would be the best way to go about it? I know the suspension will need to be built up but will it need to be lifted? Will I need to get a new transmission? mine was already starting to slip when it died. Any information will help
