Strange cold start symptom, 2003 Edge 4.0
Hi guys. I have had my beast for about a month or so. Has 130k on it and the starter had a bearing noise when it would spin down so I figured I'd replace it b4 winter. The other day before I replaced it though, When it cranked it halted almost like timing was too far advanced or a low battery but then continued to crank and started fine. Like a hiccup, for lack of a better description. Battery is fairly new and tested good so I thought "yeah that old starter is outa' there". Well, it did the same thing yesterday with the new starter. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem. It's only done it twice but I'm trying to avoid a kick in the ballistics from her some morning in winter. There will be enough other things that will do that for sure. Should I look at a possible timing issue? I figure the ecm should take care of all that but being this truck is new to me I'm putting it out there.
Thanks for any input/insight.

Did the radio loose it's preset stations or did the clock need to be reset?
Could just be a bad connection, ground or positive, from battery to starter motor.
If not then it could be the Neutral safety switch(NSS) or clutch switch.
These prevent starter motor activation unless automatic is in Park or Neutral or unless clutch pedal is all the way down.
These are contact switches that can wear out.
And Ford column shifters are notorious for getting loose, this can cause intermittent contact for NSS on the transmission linkage
Key switch-------------NSS----------starter motor solenoid(the smaller wire on the starter)
