03 ranger drivers window goes down but not up it is not getting proper + and - switch

03 ranger drivers windows goes up not down. It's not motor not the switch. I can put power to it and it works. Changed switch 2 times. It will not flip the power and ground properly. In down position it gets hot. But up is fine. I would think the switch does the flipping of polarity but it isn't for some reason I'm thinking wiring up stream but where?

It is probably either a bad connector or a bad switch.

In power window setups BOTH motor wires are grounded when switch is in Neutral position, test for that at the motor's two wire connector, both should be 0 ohms to ground with switch plugged in

The switch ungrounds ONE WIRE, and connects it to 12volts, other wire STAYS a ground, so motor spins one way(window up), when you push the switch the other way, the reverse happens(window down)

On systems with "One Touch Down" on Drivers Door window there are 2 other devices thrown in on window down, the One Touch Relay, and the GEM
These maintain the "button push" for a few seconds to roll window down all the way

2002 diagram below, 2003 is EXACTLY the same

Since window rolls up but not down my guess is that the problem is in the "one touch" part
But test BOTH wires at motor and make sure both are grounded, key on or off doesn't matter

You can by pass the "one touch" by hooking the #4 tan/blue wire directly to the driver's door red motor wire, that's how its wired without "one touch"

The "one touch" relay is in Relay box 1 which is above the gas pedal in the cab, it faces out towards E-brake pedal, it has a cover over it
Usually the lower Left relay in the box is "one touch", confirm by turning on Park lights with finger on the relay next to it, at lower right, the Park Light relay, you should feel it "click"
Standard 5 pin relay

If its not that then your GEM is the issue

I think you are on to something with one touch or gem. I will so some checks. Thanks

The red wire is open getting ready to start testing.
