04 explorer shifter

Ok let me start by saying you guys are great on here. This is actually for my older brother in SC he has nothing to do with computers. So he has a 04 explorer 2wd 4.0 auto. basic model. His shifter linkege broke somewhere under the dash. He says that he can reach under the dash to start it and put it in gear. His question is how does he fix it. I'm hoping there will be something that I can print off and send to him. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Very common issue for Ford trucks with column shifters, usually they get loose and people fix them, but if you don't then it can quit working all together

If it was loose and then quit working then do this, Google: ford explorer loose shifter

If the two screws that come loose fall out then no shifting

If it suddenly stopped shifting, no looseness just quit working one day, then there is a rod(tube) inside the column that can break, you need to disassemble the steering column to replace the rod
Google: ford explorer replace shift tube

This is so common with Fords that there are alot of videos he can watch to decide which is his issue
