04 gauges bulb question
i know this has come up before or something in this range..
i had some of my dash torn apart installin my newest mod.. and well now half of my speedo is missin some light and the overdrive bulb/LED light supplier is burnt out/disconnected/gone/lost or something.. now i remember something like this comin up sayin Ford is the only one who can get me the replacement parts..and when i open it all back up..what am i lookin for..bulbs, leds what? |
when u rip ur dash apart, with out taking the speedo completely out, (cause the gear selector is a real PITA) stick ur paw back there and feel for an empty hole. if there is no empty hole, but a bulb in its place, use one finger, and try to turn it counter clockwise? maybe its the other way? anyways, once its 'free' their kinda spring loaded so theyll just like pop out just enuff that u can make it fall into your hand. what it is, is an LED in a lil capsule type deal. their easy to change... I had to change one of mine, once i got the dash apart, it took all of like, 3 minutes
|
but is Ford the only people who sell the replacement part?
or an company online? |
uh i dunno. I barrowed a bulb from my spare cluster.....

There's NO NEED to go to the dealer for replacement bulbs. Auto Zone, Wal-Mart, or just about any other retails store with autmotive parts will have what you need.
As you can see from the list below, your instrument panel lighting is all 194 bulb type. 2004 FORD Ranger High & low beam headlamp 9007 Parking light 3457 Front turn signal 3457 Rear turn signal 3157 Tail light 3157 Stop light 3157LL High mount stop light 912 Fog/Driving light 9145 High & low beam headlamp 9007 Parking light 3457ALL Front turn signal 3457ALL Rear turn signal 3157LL Tail light 3157LL Stop light 3157LL High mount stop light 912 Fog/Driving light 9145 License plate 194 Back up light 3156LL Front sidemarker 194 Glove box 194 Map light 906 Dome light 912 Step/Courtesy light 212-2 Trunk/Cargo area 906 Under hood light 906 __________________________________________________ __ Instrument-general 161 1815 194 Hi-beam indicator 194 Brake warning 194 Automatic transmission indicator 194 Directional signal indicator 194 |

not to put the nail in the coffin, but the 04 ranger doesnt have a glove box light... and, the lights in the the gauges, are leds, not bulbs
there are 5 bulbs in this picture: http://www.ihumpedurcat.com/ranger/12//IMG_6289.JPG in this pick, the speedo is turned. look at where the gear selector space is, just below the red needle is a bulb... notice its not a fat bulb like the 194 bulbs http://www.ihumpedurcat.com/ranger/12//IMG_6297.JPG rest of the pics can be seen here: http://www.ihumpedurcat.com/ranger/12/ |
Dave they are not LEDs either, just a standard bulb that molded into the socket and is not serviceable like the older model year trucks. Look at the bulb really close if you have an old one and you can see that there is a standard filament in them.

take the bulbs out and try a X-mas tree light. It might work. I have done it on my PRND{D}21 in my BRinco 2. Floor shifter light was out and that was all i had.
|
xmas tree light wont work cause its pointy on the end. our bulbs are rounded. and are like glued into a lil plastic holder which screws into the cluster.... il;l get a pic tomarrow
|
anyone off the top of their heads know the deal with dash lights for an '03? i have a couple out too... anyone know where to get an actual SERVICE manual with this type of stuff listed???
|
03s are the bulbs..theres been tons of threads bout those but in 04+ they came out with new gauges

Sorry for the old bump but want to get something clarified. The 04 Gauges (such as in my tremor) are not the standard 194 bulbs? Is that correct?
|
Correct
|
wow.. old thread...
|
Sorry for the old bump. Thought keeping it in a pertaining thread was better than opening a new thread. Thanks for the 04blackedge. Saved me from almost ordering a bunch of LED 194 lights for my gauge cluster.
