05 Ranger STX 2wd clunk/clack under load

From a dead stop, stabbing the throttle results in a clack-clack-clack noise from the rear of the truck. Anyone experience this before? I'm thinking either drive-shaft or rear axle. Truck has 115K on it.

There is no play in the drive-shaft when you grab it and turn it by hand. None what so ever. There is also no vibration at any speed which would normally indicate u-joint failure. All heat shields are firmly in place too.

Please advise
Thanks,
Bob
