08+ Window Switches and Headlight switch
3 Attachment(s)
So today I scored a set of window and door lock switches out of a 2009 Ford Ranger XLT and I also grabbed the headlight switch with the pull out fog light switch as well. Got all this and 2 fender badges for $20.
I was wondering if anyone has converted the older rangers to use the new style switches and if they had a wiring chart as far as which wire goes to what. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything. I'm going to head back to the yard tomorrow and grab the factory door harnesses and dash harness out of a 98 with power accessories. As the one I made 3 years ago just doesn't cut it. Attachment 78200 Attachment 78201 Attachment 78202 |
Isn't the door panel connectors the same as the old level?
|
Damn, now I want new door inserts
|
Let us know how it goes my door lock switches go out from time to time and been looking at swapping those in but wasn't sure if it would work.

I took my driver side insert out today and wanted to make sure they fit before I got to carried away with the wiring. New bracket installed. It uses the same 2 mounting clips that use to go under the door handle. http://i1279.photobucket.com/albums/...psba94d5b2.jpg Attachment 78198 Attachment 78199 |
It's interesting to see how many parts are interchangeable between the years. As for the extra wires, yes those switches light up. I'd Love to find a driver side and make my passenger window auto from my seat. Idk why for didnt make both windows auto down.

Yeah so much interchanges kinda shows you how cheap ford was in redesigning it. But hey if it works don't tweak it to much.
|
Does anyone know what all years dash harnesses will work in my 98 and which gem I will need. Been doing a lot of research and can not find which harnesses will work.

Were the plugs the same?

I swapped to the 06 mirrors in my 03 and its the same number of wires just different pin positions and wire colors. You'll probably just have to play around with wire positions till every thing works correctly for you.

I did the headlight switch mod. It requires relays and some severe dremel work to fit the bezel/switch into the dash.
I will see if I can find my posts. |
I have done this mod. It is not plug and play. It requires relays and some decent wiring skill. I used an old headlight switch from a 2000 ranger to get the socket assembly. I then wired a jumper harness to the 2007 switch. I did not want to cut my original harness. At least until I was sure I had it right.
You also must Dremel out a portion of the gray support structure. The 2007 up switches are larger and positioned slightly different. The newer style switches use the ground to control the dome instead of the positive. The newer switches also are run through the smart junction box relays and cannot handle the amperage of the older wiring. That's why you need relays. I will dig up my post about this and post or link it here. ---------- Here are some things to get you started. It's late and I may have a mistake in this. Use with common sense. I will post the cartoons sometime. 07 switch.............. 03 truck harness 6 red/wh...................5 tan/wh battery positive 10 wh/red..................6 db/org battery positive 3 blk/ yel...................7 blk ground 1 brn/wh...................2 red/yel headlights via new relay 5 vt/wh.....................3 brn parklights via new relay 8 bu/wh.....................4 red/yel ign to power switch leds no connection.............9 lb/red from dimmer 9 to fog lights relay......I left my existing foglight switch in radio bezel To ign???....................8 og/ blk this powers 4wd and cruise indicators. I left it disconnected A couple of things, first of all Ford changes colors from year to year. My 2003 harness has 2 red/yell wires. 1 goes to the headlight and 1 comes from the ign. You MUST install relays on the parking and headlights. The new switch can not carry the same amperage as the original. The original had a really complex setup to power the switch illumination. I simplified it and ran it from the ignition. It won't dim anymore. I kept my radio bezel foglight switch, but that's 1 wire tripping a relay. pretty simple to figure out. #8 org/blk in the truck harness powers the 4wd and cruise indicators. Once again it's a bizarre setup from the factory. I left it disconnected for now. Once I finish installing cruise, I will try running this from the ign. Wiring the dimmer is a bit complicated because the 07 setup uses a switched ground not a switched positive like the 03. I used a relay. The 07 has smaller wire going to the dimmer switch. I don't know the amperage specs on the 07 switch. I have leds in my dome light and most of my dash, so I am not concerned on my truck. I will edit this later and post at least the text on wiring the dimmer. The 04 connections are slightly different than the 03 connections. At least according to the above posted 04 diagram. Nothing major though. |

two separate relays. I don't remember about the foglights. I'd have to dig out the diagrams and look.
I suggest buying a factory service dvd for the years needed. They can be expensive, but have all the information for all the years. |
I know this is a old thread but does anyone know if 06+ door panel is interchangeable with 2004? I'm going for power options and want OEM switches built into the door panel/handle like the ones in this thread. Not picky about the look but just need to know what year and models will snap right into the 04 base model.
