09 ranger Key trim Bezel
I have a 09 Ranger that I had to ordered replacement keys. SO I Cut they keys went to use them and yup they won't fit into the ignition trim Bezel. ( it wont fit into the funnel )
is there a way to remove the trim bezel while maintaining the ignition. WITHOUT taking the whole thing apart? |
Welcome to the forum
2009 will have PATS(passive anti-theft system), its part of the instrument cluster(HEC) and engine computer(PCM) Each key has a unique number (tag) inside its plastic handle When you turn on the key,PATS reads that number and compares it to a 3 or 4 number lists(keys that came with New Vehicle) If Match is found engine can be started, if no match then no start PATS uses RFID(“radio-frequency identification”), no batteries required So your lock looks like this one: https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MzA5WDQ5OQ==/z/k1MAAOSwepZXSLp4/$_35.JPG?set_id=8800005007 Then you have the wrong keys, and I mean they will not work even with the "funnel" removed, they will have the wrong "chip" in the handle Ford Changed the PATS keys over the years for more security so they change the size of the bezel/funnel so wrong type of key wouldn't fit New keys have to match the year of the Ranger and have to be "added" to PATS memory via laptop, and also cut for the lock cylinder Most locksmiths can cut and program PATS, need a mobile locksmith if you have no working key If you have one working key then a locksmith can cut and "clone" a blank PATS key, he "reads" PATS number from working key and "writes" that number to a Blank PATS key, so PATS system thinks it the same key, so you have a cheaper spare key |
its not that they key wont work but rather the keys have the power door fob built in
yes the locks look like that here is the key I bought https://www.ebay.com/itm/122641117258 |
Not sure what to say about those types of keys
The funnel and bezels are there because ignition switch(under steering column) and actuator rod would get sticky over the years and just using the key to turn the lock would cause handle to snap off leaving the shaft inside the cylinder Not sure if the older cylinders with just the side bezels would work, or if those types of keys would fit in any case Since you already had them cut I don't think they can be returned, but I would send them(seller) info that their "fitment" page is WRONG, and give them a negative review They will probably respond that these are only meant to be "door keys" not ignition keys And I didn't see any mention of PATS, so they may not have embedded RFID tag in any case The mention of "programming" is in regards to the Fob functions which are user programmable |
I should take help from a locksmith to know about the lock that looks like the key.

I am also not sure about these types of keys because never deal with such kinds of key issues but i can suggest a firm named emergency locksmith brooklyn which has experts to handle all such key related issues.

Auto locksmith experts knows all the things about the related between ignition and the actuator rod. Hiring them must be the best idea in such cases.

These types of keys are readily available online and a locksmith can help you to program those keys.
|
Locksmith reston order you the key and have you up faster than any dealership or service station and they also have a large stock of ignition cylinders so that you can get up and running fast in the event that your ignition cylinder fails.

To trim the ranger key dealership is the best option, don't go for a locksmith.
