I have some engine backfeed through the speakers while playing sirius sat radio.

Its like an engine whine. I think its from the ground on the sirius unit itself. My amplifier is also grounded in the same location which is the seat bolt on the rear seats.

Can I minimize this whine by moving the ground to the frame? Or is their something I can put inline to stop the back feed. I am pretty sure it is ground related.

I'm no setreo guru so someone give me some tips to figure this out.

 

There's something called a ground loop isolator that you can get from Radioshack for something like $15. If you are running RCA inputs to your amplifier, it will plug directly into there. That has eliminated my engine noise on many vehicles, I am not sure if it will work with the sirius, but its worth a shot.

 

For some installs I've done, the ground loop isolator works, but it's never worked for *me* on a ranger. I had that and I had to move my ground to another location. I was going off of the back seat bolts, I moved it to the seat belt bolt and it works a lot better now. It was also ONLY when I had an aux or peripheral in.

 

that sounds like my issue.

i dont see the RCA insulator working because even before my amp it still had it.

just here recently it has gotten worse.

 

Its something you can try before tearing apart your setup, and if it doesn't work, you can just return it. Call me lazy, but that's how I'd work it out first. Oh, and not having a heated garage as you do (lucky bastard) is quite a factor these days as well.

 

I get feedback from my Harmon Kardon Drive+Play. I tried a isolator on the input to the head unit and it did nothing. I guess its time to switch the ground.

 

sounds like a ground issue.

yet again, almost all fords have the "whine".
its the stupid fuel pump, i can't get rid of mine either, but its only when the radio is turned down really low so i can deal with it.

 

the best way to get a good ground, is to run a wire straight from the battery, but thats a pita.

clean up the connection on the seat bolt, then check to see if you still have the problem, i wouldn't ground it off the frame, the cab has a better ground then the frame.

 

well i only pull into the heated garage if i HAVE to. it cost to much to warm a garage with an ice cube in it.(the truck)

 

makes sense. seems like going to frame wont help then.

 

Fuel pump noise has been a problem for a long time in Fords.

how is the sirius connected to the headunit? fm transmitter or rca?

 

it connects to the head unit.

 

that looks like something griggs would wire! idk seems like there is another solution... maybe a new fuel pump?

 

try putting a ground loop filter between the sirius and the head unit. that wht i did and it help a lot but didn't completely fix it.
