1986 2.9 Low Oil Level Indicator/sender
I really appreciate the help I'm receiving. Thanks in advance! This weeks issue is: I've removed the 2.9 from my 86 Ranger, purchased a long block and it's on the way. Cleaning up tons of old grease and oil from everything. Now, it seems there are two senders on the driver's side of the block. The larger one appears to go into an oil galley, and the one underneath it seems to have been broken off for years. I've been cleaning the oil pan, and I've determined that this broken sender may be the LOW OIL indicator sender. Seems that the sender might have broke off from what it plugs in to the oil pan. The dangling sender part is about as think as my index finger, an inch and a half long. I never got a LOW OIL signal. And... I can't tell if there is any chance of a leak in the unit that goes into the oil pan. I never lost oil, seems I can blow air into this thing, but I tried putting a paper clip through it, and NO-GO! Huh! Any advice?
Thanks!

Yes, if its on the oil pan then its the low oil level sensor, it shouldn't leak, unless its damaged.
The fitting in the oil pan looks like this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/DrkAA...ZwU/s-l225.jpg
And this: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/rXYAA...MW5/s-l225.jpg
It is sealed inside so no oil should leak out.
It is a switch inside, normal oil level means switch is open, NOT grounded to oil pan, if oil level is low then switch closes and it is Grounded, and that will turn on the Low Oil Light
So unhooking the wire to this sensor would mean no working Low Oil Light(off all the time), i.e. no Ground to activate it
The wire end that plugs into it looks like this: https://contentinfo.autozone.com/zne...2/866/image/2/
Yes the one on the BLOCK is the oil pressure sender, it should still be a SENDER in 1986, in the late 1980's it was changed to a SWITCH
