1986 ranger oil pressure switch
1986 ranger oil pressure switch
Hey guys,
I was chasing a no start and made it to the fuel pump, just as I was about to buy and replace the one in tank I read on the installation instructions that a bad oil pressure switch will make your fuel pump inoperable. So I headed back under the engine and followed the wire from the oil pan only to find it cut about 12". No wire diagram I have found shows where to connect it and I have searched far and wide and cant find the other end. Any help would be appreciated. The wire is yellow with a red line and just that single wire.

Welcome to the forum
Carburetor engines did often use an oil pressure switch when an electric fuel pump was used, this would turn off the fuel pump if engine stalled or there was an accident, it prevents electric fuel pump from continuing to pump out gasoline from a broken fuel line.
Carburetors have a float bowl, so have a fuel reserve to start the engine, to get oil pressure, which then allows electric fuel pump to start working.
Fuel injected engines don't have a fuel reserve like a float bowl, so EFI engine can not be started unless electric fuel pump at least Primes the fuel system, so they can't use an oil pressure switch
On the 2.3l the oil pressure sender is on drivers side toward the rear of the block, Temp sender is there as well, drawing here: http://repairguide.autozone.com/znet...3f8021b7e1.gif
The Oil Pan may have a sensor for oil level, it was connected to a dash light, Low Oil Level light
