1993 ranger no spark help!

1993 ranger 2.3 auto 2wd

its getting no spark, i have tried changing the ING. module with no luck.

when i crank the check engine light stays on. so my next venture is the crank sensor.

i took the ING module off of a 1993 mustang with the same motor to see if it would work. now its not running!

i went to the wrecking yard and pulled three modules and non of them are allowing either of the cars to run.. im stuck in a bad way

what could have happened to the mustang? where should i look at next on it?

should i try the crank sensor or the computer for the ranger next?

i got in over my head and now have two vehicles tied up!

i have read forums all day and have done some testing. still no workie

Thanks guys!

Sounds like something that would usually happen to me.. Well are you sure you got them connected right? Also that they are the same part?.. ie interchangeable. Putting it in the ranger may have blown the ING module. I really doubt it would be the computer as those almost never go bad. If you can take all the parts up to Autozone and see if they can test them.

Try a new flint. If you still don't have spark try replacing the frizzen.

How did you determine you're not getting spark?

Have you tested all fuses including those under hood?

You could try pulling one of the fuel injector plugs and inserting a 12V test light between the plug terminals. Crank the engine. You should see the test light flicker. If so I'd assume the crankshaft position sensor good.

Did you check the ignition control modules connector for loose/corroded terminals or signs the connector got hot and bulged or melted?

Have you checked for power at the ignition control modules connector with the ignition on (I believe the Red/LT Green & GRY/ORG wires)?

.

Pull the covers off the timing belt and check that the belt didn't jump a bunch of teeth. Sometimes they will jump far enough that it's soo far out of time you'll get no spark.

If the timing belt skipped a tooth, you would still get spark. Get a multimeter out and check the resistance on the CPS plug, it located right next to the module under the intake. I had this same issue before, turned out to be the crank sensor. They're a pain in the *** to replace.

Notice I said a bunch of teeth.
My 94 skipped 16 teeth and had no spark.I was very carefull to mark it before retiming and resetting the belt.
OP could have a bad crank sensor, but given the age of the truck I'd look at and clean the connector to the computer. It's possible it has become corroded.

thanks for the responses guys!

i have power going into the coils (on both vehicles)

i have power going into 4 or so prongs on the ING module. (both vehicles)

i measure resistance on the crank sensor

The mustang:1.33

The ranger :2.18.

as for the timing belts. are the indention's on the timing gears supposed to be pointing at each other? or both pointing down? on the ranger the timing gear notches are not allinged any way

If the CEL is on, why dont you rent a code reader from autozone and see if you can pull codes?

ok i got it to spark on the drivers side plugs, but it wont start. ive had some backfires, but no go.

i check the timing belt and re-set it just to make sure.

i checked both coils, i switched the coils out etc,

so i have spark just on the intake side and it wont run??

got the mustang running, after 5 different ING modules it started!

The plugs on the intake side are for emissions and they fire on , get this....................The exhaust stroke.

Pick your jaw up an quit scatchin yer head. it's unbecoming.

Did you pull the codes yet?
