Had a nice high firm brake pedal before the wheel cylinder went out. Since i have only had the truck a few years, I thought i would just redo it all for preventative maint. So i replaced the following, brake booster ( had a leak),master cylinder, front pads and rotors,rear wheel cylinders, shoes, and drums. Now the problem i have is. I have a decent pedal, stops good but the pedal goes a lot lower. I can't get that nice high real firm pedal it use to have. I have bled about a gallon of fluid through it thinking it was air but i get a hard pedal it's just slot lower and driving me nuts. Any ideas of what it could be?? So for the long post

 

The power booster push rod for the master cylinder often has an adjustment for the type of master being used.

Was that setup for the Master?

 

No Ron, i didn't think to do that. Can you please explain how to do that.

Remove the two nuts holding the master cylinder to the power booster, pull the master forward.
Make sure the power booster rod is pushed in all the way and that the brake pedal is up all the way.

Measure the depth of the master's piston where power booster rod will contact it, then measure how far out the power booster push rod is.

The push rod can be held with pliers and the nut on the end can be turned to make push rod longer as needed.

If you bought the master and power booster as an assembled set this should have already been adjusted.

Just as a note:
Also make sure there is only the one "mounting" hole on the brake pedal arm, if you use the wrong hole for the booster shaft then pedal travel will be different
