1996 ranger 2.3 , cannot find temp sender

This is my first ranger ( actually a 1996 Mazda b2300 ) and the temp sender is not located above the oil filter like every single post I’ve read online . There is what’s called a “ four seasons “ connector at the heater hose close to my coil packs to the left ( about 8 inches ) of the temp sensor . I have scratched my head trying to find a single thread addressing this issue with finding this sensor . Previous guy must have had same problem because he bypassed it and put an aftermarket on the dash . Everytime I ask about this , ranger guys insist it’s the single wire sender on the block . I think I have a weird setup or rare for this type engine . I need a two wire sender and everyone I order is the wrong one . I’ve order 6 so far . I’ll try to send a pic .
