I have a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT V6 3.0 extended cap Flare side truck. The filler neck has disappeared due to the elements in NYS. I called Ford to find out the price of a replacement part and they was $326. I looked on eBay for replacements and they just have general replacements. Will the plastic replacements work just as well as their metal counterparts? Especially in NYS? Also, Ford told me that there are different filler necks for the different bed types, would there be any other difference between the two besides length do you think?

i got one off ebay for my 2.3 and it is a perfect match...hope this helps

 

your best for a cheap replacement is a salvage yard. Im in the same boat as you, mines throwing a code because my filler neck is rusting away, and i can't find a new replacement anywhere but ford for the stepside. Im just waiting myself till spring, and replacing my bed with a styleside anyway. Good luck!
