My 1999 4x4 FORD RANGER XLT 3.0 5 SPEED WON'T START.

Has a PATS.

When I turn the key, nothing happens as in starter does not try to start the engine. The dash lights up like a Xmas tree.

It has been sitting for over a month. Noticed condensation under the dash.

Battery is good... ran a wire to the starter and the starter goes.

Hooked up a starter switch... starter turns but no start. Yes, there is gas in the tank.

Tried both keys.

I have checked every visible fuse and they are all good.

I swapped relays around in case one was sticking. Still nothing when I turn the key.

Anyone have any idea?

clutch safety switch? standard transmission vehicles have an electric cutoff switch, called the clutch safety. basically, it registers when the clutch pedal is down, and allows the vehicle to start. this is an easier and cheaper thing to test and replace than an ignition switch. get it plugged into an OBDII computer testing tool. that way, if there's a trouble code, you can eliminate the guesswork. hope this helps.

I plugged in my code reader and didn't get any error codes.

Yeah the clutch switch won't set a code its basically just a fancy ground when i swapped mine i just straight wired the old auto neutral safety switch. Theres a thread on the bypass procedure here you may be able to try that to eliminate the switch as the culprit.

I assume with the switch ran to the stater while trying to start it you had the key in the ON position? May sound stupid but it could have been over looked. Have you tried bump starting it?

Yes, tried bump starting it. Had to get a tow uphill!!

Yes, key was in ON position.

Yesterday, I removed the battery and charged it.

Today, I installed the battery and the truck started right up!!!

It appears the PATS had to be reset. I know this is the case because... I had installed a push button starter switch to get the truck started. Since I am curious, I tried to start it with the starter switch and it would not start (key in on position). Then when I turned the key, it would not crank. So I disconnected the battery. Waited a minute or so and reconnected the battery and it started right up!!

The takeaway from this is to DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, WAIT A FEW MINUTES, RECONNECT THE BATTERY and see if your truck starts up.

Now, I will have to reconnect the Clutch Pedal Position Switch (CPPS), since I bypassed that as suggested.
