1999 Ford Ranger XLT OBD NOT READY / Smog failure
Hey all,
I recently purchased a 1999 Ford Ranger from a friend of mine -- it used to be his grandfathers, and came with incredibly low mileage -- just under 69,000 total! The only downside (apart from the fact that Grandad was a heavy smoker) was that the vehicle hadn't been driven in about a year and had a dead battery. We charged it up and cleaned it up... but it's not passing smog.
The truck passed on every single test except the OBD computer system "isn't ready." The test station said "drive it around for a few hundred miles" and it should fix itself -- but it hasn't. According to a OBD test device I borrowed from my brother, it's still "OBD Readiness Test Not Complete."
I've tried a couple of different "drive cycle" instructions I've found online, but they're difficult to follow to the letter on city streets, and none of them have yielded positive results.
The "EV" icon on the monitor device is still blinking, which I think means that the EVAP test is the one that hasn't completed.
To be honest, I don't know a lot about this kind of stuff -- I'm hoping someone here might know what I can do to get that EVAP sensor to complete its test and get the OBD ready for testing / smog?
