Emergency Brake light won't turn off.

Hi Guys,

Just wonderin if anyone knew about the brake light not turning off. Just started last week. Released E-Brake and it never turned off again. No matter how many times I engage or disengage it.

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

I just did my oil change and made sure everything was filled. Could the cable be loose or the sensor in my drum?

BTW, my e-brake cable is pretty loose, I'll try adjusting it.

There would have to be a sensor somewhere. Notsure if brake fluid would affect it or not. I work on air brakes

As mentioned the emergency brake position sensor would be a good place to start.

I'm not too sure about Rangers, but on my old Dodge Shadow, the e-brake light also had an exclamation mark (!) in the center of it. It also doubled as a brake fluid level light. I found this out when I blew a rear brake hose and lost my braking ability.

Never hurts to check the fluid though...LOL

Just as an FYI for all of you. I have a 98 and I know if the brake fluid level is low your ABS light will come on and the e-brake light. So just a heads up before you start going and taking stuff apart :)
