2000 Ranger Parasitic Draw
2000 Ranger Parasitic Draw
Hello everyone. Longtime viewer of this site but this is my first post. I've had my 2000 Ranger for 13 years and it's my weekend truck. It's just the basic XLT with no power windows, door locks, or cruise control, and has manual 5 speed transmission and is 4x4. It's been draining the battery in less than a week, and I've replaced the battery, tested the parasitic draw with multi meter at the negative battery post, letting the truck sleep for 30 minutes with the door latches closed. Was showing over 100 milliamps, but don't remember exactly what the draw was when I first tested it over a month ago. Removed fuse 26 and it dropped down to the normal accepted range below 50. I ran it like that for about a week or two and speedometer wasn't working so I put it back in and unhooked the GEM connections. Battery held up fine for the last several weeks doing this combination (fuse removed and GEM disconnected). I plugged the GEM back in yesterday to check the draw and it was in the 90s jumping to between 100-110, which I suppose is the anti theft. I have replaced the battery saver relay, before I removed the fuse, and there is no change, however, the battery saver relay was very hot when I removed it. Before I replace the GEM, just wanted to make sure there isn't something I should check downrange of it that could be causing the current draw. I have researched this and read several different threads both on this site and others that have been helpful to get me to this point, but I don't want to spend 300 on a rebuilt GEM only to find out that wasn't the problem. Any advice? If I do need to replace the GEM, any suggestions on a reliable source would be apprecited. Thanks.
